any other terminals employees getting written up for staying at a customers dock for more than 20 min? we have had quite a few of them in the last week!

not at our term. but if you are there and delayed we must call dispatch and he usually tells us to split...its all about the no. not the cust.......

Yeah at around 15 to 30 min you should call dispatch and have them decide what to do. Usually they will tell you to stay for another 10 or 20 min then leave depending on the customer, and the freight. If you always CYA you will be just fine.

That's great..................What kind of morale booster is that? CYA..........C'mon just use common sense and call in at 15 mins. Dispatch needs to know the delay situation. If you are there for more than that I guess it would be stealing time. Most customers understand that and will work to get there freight off the truck.

I say cya because of this. If I have been at a customers for 20 min, I know that by calling dispatch will only result in my staying another 20 min. I could save money on my cell bill and not call "because I know the answer" but then an LOI would probably follow. So instead I make the call, and get told to wait 20 more minutes to Cover My @ss. Staying 40 min on my own is bad, but staying 40 min because dispatch told me to is okay. That's what I mean. It's not meant to be a moral booster, or downer. It's just the way it is. Doing your job right, and checking in with FOS's to make the time decisions is all a part of CYA.

that is one of the biggest issues with this company. on one hand they want you to be like a special forces marine, handle everything on your own,be self reliant. then,if you make a judgment call based on your experience and understanding of company policy and someone in charge of you doesn't like your decision, you put yourself out to be fired or punished. this is especially true with pedal drivers that have been on the same route for years. it is really hard to take orders from someone that knows nothing about your daily routine. cover your butt too much, they complain. make a decision on your own, risk termination . guess termination isn't as bad as it once was, with little to no 401k or pension, what ya got to lose? i still worry constantly about losing my job,but at the same time, this company is not what it once was,and it may be a good thing to part ways.

i think you may have misunderstood the CYA. i think he meant it as "cover your @$$"
