ODFL | LayOffs In Indy

Guess you husband was a model dock worker? There are those of us on the dock with more time than him that are still working. Plain and simple your husband put himself in a situation he shouldn't have been and as a result got terminated.

It sounds to me like you know the man and are accusing him of something.Stop right there.Anything you have to say to lilbit 814 take it to a p/m and you both can discuss it at length but not on the open forum.Since you're new here I would like to welcome you aboard and wish you and your family a Merry Christmas.

i don't want to be the bad guy here, i'm just telling the truth. Everyone wants to know the truth, right? That's what i',m doing. Someone coming on this board and falslely accusing od of lay-offs and raising everyones fears and concerns is not right! Is there such a thing as "permanent lay-off"? Look up the definition of lay-off. He was permanantly fired, not permanently layed off.
the truth is that od didthis over 10 years ago when i was there i seen alot of go workers hit the streets with there permanent lay off. I no a couple that came back later an they had to start all over again.it said to say but company do not care about you or your family. When it come to them saveing a penny.

Perhaps your hubby wasn't being quite honest with you. He didn't get laid off, he was fired. With the economy the way it is all companies are looking to cut labor. You can illafford to make one wrong move. OD is not laying off, they are getting rid of dead weight. Go to work every day and do what you're paid for and you'll keep your job. It amazes me how some people, with the economy as bad as it is, jerk around all day long and think they will keep their job. Way to go OD, keep the ones who bust their tails and get rid of the bums (GOOD BUSINESS)
I HOPE YOU DONT HAVE TO EAT YOUR OWN WORDS ONE DAY.

Just so that I have this correct. This is a public forum in which anyone can speak their mind and this lilbit can accuse OD of all types of discrimination but when I respond and tell her that her husband may not be a model dock worker I need to use a PM? Shouldn't the same go for everyone else that has an opinion that may or may not involve a specific person? Please let me know because I don't see the point otherwise of this forum.

You,being anonymous, singled the lady's husband out for what looked to be a personal attack.Read your 1st post again " he was in a situation".Read the forum rules about attacking the post not the poster, you could have said the same thing in a general way.As for O.D.being attacked...believe me O.D. can take the heat. This is over.Any more comments p/m me.

My husband worked on the dock for OD for five years..... and just last week they told him not to worry about layoffs. But today he went in to work thinking that he was gonna rebid only to hear.... well due to the slow economy that they had to let him go...... Permanent lay off.

i hope you all have a merry christ-mas

sorry to hear about your husband, My husband had a similar experience. Although he had only been at his work for 2 years. They let go of 2 others in his same seniority range and one new guy (so far). He was told he was being let go do to the poor economy and it had nothing to do with his performance. He was also informed that he would be eligble for rehire. But, from what we are told he would have to start all over again from the beginning. I know the whole experience can be very disheartening, but keep in mind it will get better! :console:
