I'm sorry to hear that. This really sucks.I hope you find something soon.

Just passing thru here . Former DHL driver here ,after 14 years ,thought I was going to retire there .
Just goes to show ,union or non union just go to work everyday making up your mind that you will do the best job you can and to push your company above others. But not in so much as to say that ,oh company X might be going out of business so you need to use us . But be a salesperson for YOUR COMPANY....Tell the customers the GOOD things about your company. If a customer sees that you really believe in what you're doing , and the pride you take in your job . It shows the customer something..

Just got my walking papers today in TXK. Total of 7 linehaul and 1 P&D was what the Terminal Manager told me this morning.

Unemployment office looked like an OD drivers meeting this morning.

Well, kinda figured it was coming. Freight just isn't there right now.

I'll draw my unemployment until something comes up.

I was told that if business picks up enough and he can justify hiring another P&D driver that I might be called back.

Guess we'll see.

Well, good luck to everyone. Its gonna be a tough year.

Way Out West

Sorry to say that a MEO line driver was laid off today. He was cleaning things out when I was switching with my meet partner.

A Question for You All

With things happening, say if there is a lay off at a certain terminal, would the new people that have come through the driving school be laid off or would they be protected because of their agreement to drive for O.D. for a year to pay back the schooling cost.

Or would it be the discretion of the local T/M.

OD was banking on YRC going under.A few days ago YRC reworked there deal with there banks and are going to be ok for at least a year.So OD wont need all the extra help they have been holding on to.

I heard that the drivers that were laid off in GBO were the drivers that were hired in 2008, anticipating that YRC was going to go under. When YRC did not fold then the drivers that were hired last year were released. I do not know if that is true or not, just what I heard. Happy Trucking

I heard the same thing about YRC, but the layoffs extend beyond 2008 hires, and into mid 2007 to my personal knowledge. Higher ups in the company certainly knew that this was going to happen. A few days heads up would have made a world of difference to those of us who really depend on that medical insurance. I don't see why they couldn't have warned us as other companies are doing for their people. I understand the part about getting laid off, but it's not necessary to do it in this manner.

i know in my area just coming thru driving school don't protect you they usually only come after you for the money unless you get another driving job then they file it with collections I know a former driver that was fired three weeks after completing school and that was what he was told in three years they have not bothered him for the cost of school since he wasn't driving a truck anymore

I heard today now they are leaning to targeting more linehaul than city. That sucks. Two friends got the axe!! Too bad. They have been sticking it out and giving their all, then this happens. I understand things are slow. But you don't have to target linehaul. (Even thought that is the highest pay)

still don't make much since since we don't get paid to sit at home unless they think its not going to pick up freight wise this year

They still pay about 25% of our wage to social security, ins, work comp etc. Cheaper to let us go and rehire at starting wages later on if needed.
I wish the best to those that have been laid off.
I might be joining the ranks soon as I am the only wild driver left, for now.
