Yellow | Mass chaos, tell your story here

The mainline is a Unix based operating system. More dependable than any Windows product and it may not seem like it but faster. You have to know the commands though and this is why every one thinks its antiquated it does not look or act like windows. Every supervisor should have a list of the commands and what they do, but I have not seen one laying around.
What scares me more than anything is the lack of tow motors and computers at Indy 324. People unable to do job because there are not enough tow motors. No computers on the tow motors and there and not enough hand held computers. Supervisors routing bills for people without computers with out checking where freight goes and sending it to wrong doors.
Freight for EOL terminals not being run because line haul is to busy trying to run main line. Utility can only pull so much freight back and if they where pulling full loads back before merge. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that line haul will have to run overflow.
Workers seem to be getting along just overwhelmed with amount of freight dumped on them. The yellow dock workers don't seem to be having to many problems with computers if they can get one.Yellow pro numbers are causing a lot of problems and the Yellow movement bills are small and hard to read. Once these are out of system it should get better.

Did you ever use the yellow system. I never had a problem with it as far as reliability. It was easier to use and find info than the Roadway system. I could find the docked bill location or trailer location of any freight that was arrived at our terminal. I did not have to go thru up to 12 steps to get freight loaded onto a trailer. Once logged into a trailer I could scan a bill and load or bay it any where in one step. This system was set up by third graders on a Radio Shack Tandy III that I used in 1984.

No I have never used the Yellow system, I came from Roadway and was a city driver and had never used the Roadway dock system till last July. It is not that difficult and Roadway never did anything without a reason so there is a reason behind every step. The dock computers can do everything they want us to do and give us all the info they think we need. If I had used both systems we could debate the pros and cons of both. Yellows could have been the better system but we where told Roadway owned theirs and was compatible with Reimer and Yellow leased their system and was not compatible with Reimer. we know we don't have any extra cash around to convert to a leased system.
I was mainly talking about supervisors having trouble with new computer system. If you reread my post you will see I said Yellow dock people where not having problems with the computers if they could get one.

That radio shack was probably Unix based also.

We got off to a rocky start but everyone is on the same page here. The managers are lost and have had to ask for help from the teamster labor. Everyone is doing their part and we have a lot to learn. The freight is moving but it is taking quite a bit of time getting it hooked and on it's way. Trailers lost in the yard, bills but no freight, freight and no bills. We are bending the rules to make this thing work. One thing is for sure, we obviously had this responsibility dumped in our laps. No one can ever say that the teamster labor didn't do everything they could to make it work. I would like to think that when things calm down around here our managers won't forget who bailed them out when the chips were down.
 
no better time then the present

to have done this with it being a slow slow period verses doing it went we are getting slammed in the face with freight during the summer. The first week has been stressful but i am seeing positives. O/B has increased here and freight we weren't hauling b/4 is now getting on our trucks.

Frustrating yeah it is, but you got people running around *****ing like they are on menopause not helping the problem.
I remember when we went to the hand helds and people were complaining this and that. Been over a year and don't hear anyone barking about it now. Most of the customers don't even care just as long the freight is taken care of and serviced.

They even made fun of the YRC abbreviated for "You Really Cares", Your Really Cheap", "Your Recssion Carrier" ect, ect...

I'm going to shut up now and say this last thing........
There are only (3) types of people in this YRC situation:
1-Is the people who watch things happen.....
2-Is the people who make things happen.....
3-Is the people who wonder what the hell just happened.....

The choice is yours in my opinion
 
only thing funny i heard is that guys in their 70's still work for this company.....i guess uncle sam ain't taking care of them enough

Ask any Yellow dock employee. The Roadway setup is an old POS. With Yellows it would show you every shipment on a trailer. Every shipment in a bay. You could weight whatever number of pieces on a shipment and see a running total with just a push on the screen. Yes it actually added everything up every time you weighed a piece. You could even have multiple people running the same shipment at the same time, each weighing it and seeing the total as it moved. You get something without a bill? Find a pro number, scan it and at least most times it knew WTF is was. This new old sysyem wants to know where to put it. If something did'nt fit into a trailer, it was scanned into a bay and the bill put into the box showing it was on the dock at that door. Even if it was 20 doors away from where it was supposed to be, at least someone could scan the bill later and load it.
 
i don't care what type of system you guys are using. all my truck knows is forward and sometimes i make use of reverse. but i know one thing if i use reverse it will take a long time to make that 500 mile run so get a grip and quit crying.

all the people i have come into contact with on this first week have been pleasant (both yellow and roadway) and most helpful.

don't you guys understand what has happened? the merger of 2 vast freight outfits and that is a major accomplishment in itself.

to all that want to see this company go down go write on the ****house walls

Middletown missed 100 pickups?I knew that was going to happen with our former customers.Maybe we should send over some of the 19 men we got and don't need here in Cheshire.
 
im seeing a lot of stressed-out line haul dispatchers, yrc needs to buy these guys some valum and put it in the coffee pot every morning .
