Just received clarification on how company can use 4 hour shifts from the Union in 391 area.
1. No 4 hour bids.
2. Do not have to accept a 4 hour shift. If you do, they can't hold you over 4 unless you want to
3. If you accept a 4 hour shift, they can call a jr. man in before your shift is up for a 4 or 8 hour shift. They do not have to offer you any extra time if you accept the 4 hour shift.
4. After a 4 hour shift, 6 hours off then you can accept another shift.
5. If you work a 4 hour shift and stay 6, they have to keep you 8.
To me, #3 is where the opportunity for the company to abuse the most.

They don't have to keep you for 8, but will have to pay you for 8 so let them send you home at 6.25:)

I know what ours do, if they don't need you for the full 8 they "offer" for you to go home early. If not they find some s*** job for you to do to finish your 8. If they offer and you go they do not have to pay you for the full 8.

if a jr man is braught in for 4 hours because a sen man turns it down , then theY keep him 8 will the sen man be able to file run around . I would

My understanding is when the 4 hours are up, have to make calls again. If nobody accepts, can offer jr man a full 8. I will ask in the morning to clarify this.

LB I'm withyou on the company abusing that language (file for a run around). This is nothing but split shifts wonder if they would allow a double punch on the same day.

Ask the yes voters. I'm sure they know what the language is..... or maybe they just voted yes to keep their jobs . Contact the workers at the 'new and inproved " 120 terminal in Dorrance Pa. Mark S. is still celebrating . The rules depend on how it is interpereted by the company, and the company will win. The guys that retired do not care about your silly work rules ,as long as the pension checks keep rolling in !!!! Keep dragging this carcass along so i can get my checks !!!!

Over the weekend I ran into a guy I know that works for Estes on the dock. He was telling me that YRC got there ideas from Estes about the 4 hour casuals. Estes workers get called in to work at 5:30 in the morning, work the dock until the freight is finished / go home and then at 5:30 pm they come back in and do the same routine. There is no 6 hour break in time because they don't drive on the street and are not limited to the DOT rules. I can see where YRC is headed with this, it should be interesting

Non-union companies do what ever they want as far as dock..use part timers while full timers laid off etc. Wide spread panic is spreading at an alarming rate over the four local cartage man.

The contract says:

it can have no impact on regular full timers

there will be no back to back 4 hr shifts

or four hr over-lapping shifts

this is what stewards and BA's are paid for..contract enforcement..no cheap BS

one might assume that week end dock overtime will vanish with the 7 day work week

and greatly reduced during the week

Wow joe, you just described the great yrc! Looks like the nons got the idea from the onion and the company. Glad to see you finally woke up from that coma! PS: I'll pick you up 4am for opening day, 11-20. Remember this time that the barrel points away from you, not into your shoulder like last year. I don't want to babysit you in the emergency room again. And don't think you're pulling that bs again when we go to breakfast that you forgot your wallet or I'll leave you in the woods for the night!

It should be interesting. Especially, when YRC is in the process of restructuring, and I'm sure the company will upgrade all their equipment on the dock with technology like this........

PEAK Technologies partners with Zetes Industries to bring Visidot to the US market
