November 19, 2010: YRC local management wasted no time scurrying to implement the newly ratified agreement at the barns, and in ways that destroy long-standing practices. At the Copley Ohio breakbulk, their high-handed actions included firing a shop steward for a nonexistent work slowdown.

A strong pushback from members and Local 24 helped to reinstate the steward and to stop unilateral changes, at least for now.

Normally contract changes as big as those in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) would be implemented with the agreement of the union. But at Copley, and some other terminals, management is using the MOU as an excuse to do whatever they want.

the terminal manager and steward should both be relieved of duty for dereliction of duty and for their incompetency that led to this fiasco

are there not any knowledgeable terminal managers out there?

Why should the steward be relieved? From the info provided it sounds like he merely communicated what he had been told by the local. There was no work stopage or slowdown according to what this article says. If so why would you relieve the steward?

Hey Joe,isn`t it Zollars and his cronies incompetence that led us into this fiasco in the first place!!!

A big sticking point with Copley Teamsters was that management moved to immediately eliminate all the straight eight hour bids, and would eliminate seniority with respect to yard work.
how dumb can a terminal manager be to do this?

Local 24 officials told stewards on November 5 that word came down that if the company instituted the changes unilaterally, a work stoppage may result. When a steward discussed this report with the rank and file, management fired him.
If this gets the steward off the hook, that's good..but word came down? WTF? The BA should have came down and killed it without any threat of a work stoppage..looks like the sequence of events is spinning out of control

Remember, you voted to accept the worst possible work rule company wide. Figure out what that is and defend yourselves.:479:

we had 4 sets of bids posted since the mou,all because yrc wanted to post bids anyway but the contractual way.management demonstrated its inability to comply and i agree, they should be relieved as well.

we [haha] i hate saying that. wrote yrc a blank check and said file it in and sign on the dotted line .
cant understand why every1s upset now thAT they are filing in the blanks now.

I cant believe that some act surprised that YRC actually has intentions of using the MOU in their favor on every thing they think of........or did they think it would only be a moral victory for the company and they would play nice????

Now lets not all get dramatic. The union would agree and say the same thing.

Remember, it's takes time to adjust to the new "Yes System." :biglaugh:

You two hit the nail on the head. Why are people shocked that the company will abuse these gray areas of the agreement? They put the language in the agreement for a reason......they planned on using it. We tried to warn everyone. Now everyone sit back and enjoy since the majority agreed to this.

more language they will wish they didnt get into. because even if it doesnt work they will force it and swear its working . like having utility drivers that i hear they are phasing out . even though it was their saviour.
