I agree Roadwhore every month there are more and more purchase trailers in the yard. get rid of them and keep the fedex freight employees working. fred Smith and his management team have really made a lot of bad decisions. And I dont belive for a minute fred or any of the upper management took a pay cut. why did they not just have a pay cut across the board (drivers and dock) and keep them working. they could have saved millions and millions by doing that. They have lost a lot of good employees over the past year. It is funny how a person who has been there 12++ years lost their job when a person who has been there less than 2 years is still working. If you did not have your CDL you were the first to go. maybe if they would have told these people they would be the first to go if they did not get their CDL a lot of them would have got it just for a little job security.

Not sure LTT but I've been here since 97 and one of the reasons I got my job was the fact that AF was wanting everyone to have a cdl, the winter before I started they cut a bunch of dock guys from what I was told. Now over the years as freight levels picked up they had issues keeping enough bodies on the dock and they started seeing a benefit of non-cdl as they knew those guys would be there to work the freight.

On a side note I'm glad it worked out for you, hopefully it will for us all.

You obviously do not know the amount of revenue the W&R people recover for this company...very ignorant.

In my terminal (ATL) even full time dock workers with a valid cdl were laid off.

Full time dock workers in the middle of driver education program were also laid off.

Here's another one for you


Graduates of the driver education program who completed passed their road test, went to the driver orientation program and passed (with their certificates) came back the terminal and were NOT added to the city board.

They were classified as dock workers, and only one escaped the layoff in Feb only because he had a company sen of 99.

He was told that even though he completed the program, if there is another layoff on the dock he is gone.



Oh, they did offer to have him take the driver education course again in Nov/Dec if the freight level picks back up to the levels they were ......2 years ago.
 
WHAT I WANT KNOW IS WHY DO THEY KEEP MAKING DRIVERS MAKE TOUGH DECISIONS TO LEAVE THEIR HOME CENTERS TO KEEP A JOB???:ranting2:
 
WE are concerned about the stock price and, the uncertainty of our future. I was going to apply at FED UP But, Damn now you're laying off!!

What legislation are you talking about???
The only legislation being debated only concerns Express and not Freight.
The sad truth is that a lot of the problems we maybe going through with the economy is due to Obama putting this country into a tailspin. And things may eventually fix themselves as soon as we clean house after 2010.

Employee Free Choice Act. And the deal with express does affect us. If they are allowed to become a bargining unit, it will help all of us.

Actually the one that affects Express directly and the rest indirectly is the Railway Labor Act.
The employee free choice act (card check) is different.
And I'm not going down that road or any other road, I'm sitting in my chair stirring the pot.
