FedEx Freight | Why is Fedex becoming so openly hostile to its drivers???

I usually just observe forums and am not much into posting but it has got to the point that I have to ask a question. I am a city driver with a little bit of seniority under my belt and I have observed a steadily increasing trend of open hostility and disrespect towards us. What is with this? Why have we become the enemy of this company? I just want to do my job in peace. I enjoy what I do and believe in our product but I cannot understand why when we are the footsoldiers why we are being treated as the enemy.

Your the PROBLEM....eaton........You and your seniority....

Theres probably 5 to however many junior drivers behind you that are pissing and moaning because they have been around for 1 to 6,7,8,9 years and the best start time they can get is a 10,11,12, possibly even a 1 p.m start time...

SO NOT FOR ANY OTHER REASON......YOU HAVE TO GO..... YOU HAVE TO MAKE WAY.....there are alot of drivers in that position......SORRY TO SAY....and also.... SORRY TO SAY THAT THE COMPANY WOULD USE THAT AS AN EXCUSE TO RID THEMSELVES OF YOU AND YOUR ILK....

It won't be the reason you disappear....They will find another reason....BUT ....It will be the EXCUSE........

I feel your pain eaton..............

Three reasons, Doug D., Larry M., and Pat R.....Trust fund baby boomers who had their way financed through college. Eleatist mentality and think they are superoir to other people...They graduate from a big university hook up with a company and work their way to the top by backstabbing people along the way...None of them could start a business and build it from the ground up like Randy and Dick B. did or Fred S. did. I remember one of the old Viking presidents Rodger M.. He was a Captain in the united states army and served in combat in vietnam....He was a true leader. I wished we had him today.

Dude, I don't know who you are or where you are from, but I can tell you this much, Pat R. does not have an "elitist mentality". Pat is about as human as it gets. Furthermore, he did not grow up with a silver spoon as you would suggest. Has he made some hard decisions; yes. Have some of them been, in retrospect, ill advised; yes. But to sugest that he is some kind of ivy league punk really isn't fair. Pat is a really decent guy and he doesn't like this anymore than anyone else. It might also be helpful to know, Mr. Garrison hired him and promoted him.

I am not a member of the Pat R. cheer squad. However, I'll say this much, Pat is just about as decent as they get.

Peace

This must be a different Pat Reed than the one on the latest tape.

Geeze. Nobody, How dumb do you think I am. His Ill advised decisions have cost people their jobs and put true harships on a lot of people. His Ill advised decisions have hurt people. I guess that makes him a decent guy right. His answer to the mess he took I'll advice to start is this in a nut shell. You need to trust me and believe what I say after I have ruined your job with this company and If you dont like it well you just quit spewing your venom and go work for a competor....Yeah I guess that is what you call leadership. He may indeed be a very nice person, charming and likeable and a great salesman.

But his Ill advised decision making have caused a lot of good men to to come home to hungry looking eyes staring at dad at the dinner table wondering where is he gonna find the money to buy me new shoes, or get the money for the braces the kids teeth or to pay the money for medicen of a sick spouse or child in the family.....

Meanwhile Pat, Doug, and Larry, Still have their six and seven digit income and no hungry eyes staring back at them around their dinner table...Money for their kids college is just pocket change to them...Oh paying for gas and a car no problem..Fedex buys it all for them....But that is what nice people get is it not ? ....Hell these three guys get more money in their padded expense account than five dock workers make in an entire year.

You make the money you do and have hungry eyes at the table?
What kind of house payment do you have?
What kind of car do you drive?
How much did vacation cost you this year?
Do you know the difference between a want and a need? Does your wife?

Have you listened to the lastest Mile Marker CD? Doesn't sound like he has a grasp on the morale situation at all.

He may be a great guy, but he's so insulated from us he doesn't know us.

Hey Pat, come on down to Tacoma anytime you feel like it. Just drop in. While our SCM has goes into a seizure when he sees you, we could have a nice chat.

Or better yet, we'll head out to The Ram. We'll buy you dinner and beer while we chew the fat.

I may be wrong, but I think he's talking about the people that have been shafted in the last few months. Not himself.

Of course, he could have been fibbing, but when asked about his college background a few years back at one of those fly-in, meet n greet, fly-out dealeos, Larry M. said he never went to college, started out on the dock after high school and has worked his way up from there. Believe he's an old Roadway'er if I recall. (I know it bums a lot of you out to hear that not all of our execs came from Conway.)

As for Pat, according to his bio on the intranet, he went to college at some state school somewhere in the West Virginia, of all places, hardly the bastion of elitism.

I don't recall much about Doug, other than he was the former president of Viking and now runs the whole Freight shebang, yet most everyone west of the Rockies gets their panties in a wad about the way the "AF people" have taken over.

Ironic, huh. Guess Doug finally saw a better way of doing business.

I'd have to dig to be sure, but for some reason I thought Rodger M. is now a bigwig at FedEx Ground - assuming we're talking about the same guy - does his last name resemble 'mar tee kay'?)
Maybe if he knew you held him in such high regard, he'd find a spot for you over there. (Sorry if that comes across as 'if you don't like it, leave.' I really just want you to be happy!) :shift:

oaf

He went to west liberty a small public college.. Good for Him....Marteke went to Cornell good for him too...I will tell you this no more ill advised decisions and him and myself and others around here will get along fine...I get pissed off when good men loose their jobs and their familys get hurt because other good men made ill advised decisions and they stay on top while the guys on the bottom get screwed...I tell you all what you go out and do your job in a bad way..( maybe do something like miss deliver a few boxes or not fill out your time form correctly ) and just tell your scm the reason it happened was because you just made a ill advised decision and if you dont like they way I did you can just go find another company to work for...See what trouble you get yourself into then....HMMM.

Bottom line these guys made big time mistakes and one out five aint gonna let them forget that till they get this ship on track and headded in the right direction.

KW. I really don't want to get into a pi$$ing match with you 'cause I just went and am, as luck would have it, out of ammunition. I've got just a couple of points:

First, neither Mr Reed, Duncan, or Smith are responsible for the economic trouble this country is in. Yet, they are responsible for how this corporation reacts to a 20% decline in business; it's ultimately what they get paid to do. So, from that standpoint, they're doing their jobs. And part of any corporation's reaction to a loss of business is going to be a loss of jobs. That's just how it works, period.

Second, I do think they've handled the whole thing in a really poor way. I don't think a 'like it or leave' mentality is what we really need at the moment.

Finally, a lot of my friends have lost their jobs here and elsewhere. I go to work almost every day wondering if today is my day, and go home most days wishing it had been. But, then, I wake up the next day happy and thankful that I have a job. I can assure you that Mr Reed and Mr Smith take no joy in putting people out of work. Actually, it's a badge of personal shame to them both. It's not their fault. Their reaction is, and I guess this gets us right back on topic.

Be happy, KW and all. Take comfort and joy in the things you know. It will get better.

Peace

I have read all kinds of things about the top management of this company. Maybe the realignment in the west could have been done differently, I am not able to make important decisions based on the limited info that all of us workers have at our disposal. It would only be speculation at my level. So, is it possible that these evil men at the top of company have info that we do not? Probably... but it gets tougher as you climb the hill, not easier. I want you to think about the next 3 in line to take the top spots... it will surely be worse than the top 3 now.

Got callused to that many years ago thanks to Mr T. Saw the writing on the walls then. Keep your head down and your feet moving. They didn't care then(when things were good),they sure as heck don't care about us now.:ranting2:
