Have wondered for some time who's time are randoms taken on in different barns. Here they expect you to do it on your time. Since it is a requirement for employment shouldn't we be on the clock for this? Is this company policy or local management?

The catch is, it's not a requirement for employment. It's a D.O.T. requirement for CDL licensing.

It's on company time at my barn, you come in, hit the clock, then get informed you were selected for a random, they bring the sample taker into the terminal and we do the test in the guest restroom onsite...

yeah we don't get payed at are barn. But if you look at your log book it says if you do a random drug test it is to be logged as on duty non driving. I do log it so I can at least get my 10 hours off because as a line driver I find out I have to do the random at the end of my shift.

According to the DOT handbook, it is supposed to be on the companies time, unless you are an O/Op but we are also supposed to take a break after 2 hours, and a lunch at 4 hours. Good luck getting any of those worked in there.

conway says its on your time because its a d.o.t. requirment which is logged on duty also d.o.t.required. Having been here 24 +years Conway allways had a drug screen on your aniv.date. and they still did not pay for it.

I knew of a guy who religiously used a sick day following all random tests. They never figured it out. He never called in when he was sick either. He is retired now......had enough of the company.

Constant theme with this company...screw your employees any way you can.

Every little bit helps.

was on l h came in ant told to do a test off the clock came in next and was told that i had to re do my log for the day to show it as on duty not driving time i said am i getting paid for this and was told no i said then its on my time and i do not have to log it and will not log it

we now get paid for them in canada. It's a u.s. requirement, and if the company choses to follow u.s. law out of a canadian terminal, they must pay the driver for the drug test. Same as driving to the border to get our FAST card.

you do log it as on duty, not driving. And don't beat up your employer, it's a federal government rule. Make money mowing lawns or tending bar on weekends? Also on duty, not driving. You should know this stuff... CSA 2010, H.O.S., R.O.D.S., very important stuff.

And when you get released for falsifying documents, blame the company?

OK. Stupid question time... Out here on the Left Coast they've added a breathalyzer test. We do our tests on our own time. So could I get totally sh**-faced and take the test. It's not illegal to be drunk on your own time. (Is it?) Oh yeah, I'll be getting a designated driver to take me.

Not as long as you and your driver pick-up a hooker on the way.
