Doesn't seem to be slow if your covenant or any of the others that haul Estes freight, bid runs cut or cancelled for good. It seems the company is taking a look at Conways game plan of using everybody but it's own employees to haul the freight. Almost 10 years with the company do my run 3 days a week if I'm lucky until it gets cancelled too.
 
ok guys, so whats the lesser of 2 evils ? in a sense by the way things r going now with the outside carriers and freight levels low and waiting around, we in effect have taken a pay cut. so should rob cut r wages across the the board and in turn cut rates to the customers by 85 to 90 percent like some other carriers r offering ? one company is bragging of all time tonnage records right now, problem is u can hall a million tons of freight for little or nothing,but in the end profits r zeeerooo. so whats the best solution for both company and employee's ? my thoughts r it"s slow now 4 both but in long run when economy turns around,both of us will get stonger,faster because rates r staying for the most part the same now,and rates and wages can go up faster for both. sucks right now tho with these long layovers we r having
 
yes it is a tough call. just in some area's it seems to be a little contractor heavy
take for example run me empty from denver to kc. well there where 2 pups a west middle and chicago. VST runs that freight. so VST is cheaper to run empty than me ?
it is tough right now just hope it all makes sense down the road
 
ya thats the problem with this outside carrier stuff, r trucks run for lets say 1.50 a mile,and a outside yaho carrier looking for business to keep his trucks running will haul it for you for 1.15 a mile into a slow lane the west, hard to resist the temptation ? biggest problem tho is estes has to pay for these carriers wether they use them or not in a pre arranged agreement
 
using the outside carriers maybe saving the company money now, but the customers arn't getting the service from them that a company truck would give...so, in the end how many customers are we going to lose to save .35 a mile
 
i heard a driver out of 017 quit cause he had to wait 8 hours after his break. went to extra board after his run was cut.

quess he didnt read the boards and see that wasnt the longest wait.
 
fed ex likes moveing freight for free. look at there discounts.

I love to hear you estes guys complaining about carriers cutting your rates and hauling freight for free. Do any of you remember when estes expanded into the northeast ? around 96 or 97 biggest cuts ever Iworked for red star for 20 years we use to interline everything going south of va with estes and estes would give us what they had north . They backsold all are freight with huge discounts but we got most back within 2 months. Just rember what goes around comes around.
