I was pleasantly surprised surprised to find out that Fedex reimburses its drivers for the cost of fingerprints for the Hazmat background check. I paid $89.25 for the fingerprints, but in this weeks check, I was reimbursed $275.00, a difference of $185.75.
If you multiply $185.75 times the number of drivers at Freight and National, that amounts to millions of dollars per year.
With operating losses for the past fiscal year of $250,000,000, how can the management at Fedex be so irresponsible? I would have been happy just to get my $89.25 back, as I was never reimbursed at my previous job. There's a big cost savings right there. I hope someone wakes up in Harrison, AR. I want to see us start making a profit again and this is one area where we could start.[/COLOR]

They pay you equal to 8 hours of pay to do this to cover your time even though it may not take all day to do it. they are re-imbursing you for the costs of the finger prints plus your time as it is required by FEDEX Freight that you have a Haz Mat endorsement. Not all companies require you to have a Haz Mat, so there for you do not have to go through that process. I think it's great that they do that for their drivers.

Thats not payed out every year. Only when your licence expire. So I'm figuring maybe a 4th of the drivers per year maybe.

When did they start doing this? When I got my finger prints done when they started doing it I just got the $85

Watkins Motor Lines policy that has carried through on FedEx National LTL has been a flat $275 reimbursement to cover the cost of the fingerprint check and potential lost wages. I do not know FedEx Freight's policy.

Millions..... Really. How did you come up with that figure? Let's not over exaggerate the numbers. If, and I say if because I am not sure how many drivers we employ.....If we have 10,000 drivers the company would be over paying by about 1.95 million dollars, divided by 4 yrs is 487 thousand dollars a year.....Still a lot of money to us low lifes, but not enough to make the big difference that you speak about....

Happy New Year and thanks for caring enough to even think about it, but IMO this is a non issue.

As long as I have been there since 2005. I am not sure about the rest of the country what the policy is and this may change with Freight, but the Freight drivers I have talked to here on the West Coast get the same thing as for now.

I swear I think if they stood at the gate and handed everybody a crisp 100 dollar bill everyday just for coming to work, somebody would *****

lol, I know I would! I am going to bring a change of underwear to work on Monday...just in case!

I was only reimbursed the $85.00 also. Maybe they canged the policy in the last 4 years though. I am due again this year and would appreciate the $275.00. I don't understand why we have to redo the background checks anyway. My fingerprints haven't changed.

You know us drivers dig for gold on a routine basis and digging for gold could change the appearance of your prints(Ha! Ha!) anyway hope all have a safe and Happy New Year.:wavey:
