With the super reships I could honestly say I agree with you
I am old and do not know what I am talking about, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I can remember this being said for years. But hey I do not care anymore and why would anyone else. CON-way will take real good care of there people.

xcn suppsed to start in jan around clock dock going on
Fremont Indiana (XCW) has been 24 hours six days for a number of years now. 7am Monday we start and shut down the dock sometime Saturday afternoon/evening. The process is inbound/'U' freight into 2-day into outbound into reship. Saturday is a full crew on the dock loading west bound 53's and Monday's p&d runs. All loads are broke and all freight is off the dock onto trailers for p&d or Monday night's reship. Monday during the day is usually quite on the dock except for end of the month and weather delayed loads that rolled in over the weekend. Those get broke by dock workers on a will-call list. Day full time dock workers are Tuesday thru Saturday jobs.

Xcn has been running a 6-day ops with "u" Frt. since 98. They have Full dock bids with part time dock workers Mon-Sat. But starting in Jan 2010. They are also starting a Daytime Fac (not sure of all the terminals sending drivers into it, but have heard that detroit-xde and Knoxville-nkx will be running into it) with additional dock bids and dock workers to cover the daytime reship as well as the "u" frt. city ops and the Night time Fac.They have expanded the the yard as well to help with some, but not all of the congestion.

They'll have to load trailers to go from one building to the other. A linehaul run, no doubt.

From what I understand, the old terminal will be used for "N" freight consolidation. All the N freight from the northern FAC's like Newburgh and Newark will be worked there during the day building as many pures as possible. That freight will be worked there instead of the next FAC to the south to reduce re-handle at night. For those that run XHG, those N freight trailers that hit the yard after a piece or two is pulled off will be heading over there also. I would imagine it will take a few weeks to work the bugs out of this.
I think alot of changes are comming as the industry changes but no (GLOOM&DOOM) like Y.R.C., just my opinion!

What Future????...
Is there a future at Con-Way???...
Most likely the answer will/would be in the affirmative.
The quality of that future is in serious question for those of us that work here. The qualitative atmosphere at this company has so deteriorated in the last several years to the degree that it has become unrecognizable from what the genre or mindset was at origin.
At the outset we were lean and mean taking no prisoners along the way. We did what needed to be done to acquire business and move freight to the satisfaction of our customers.
Promises were made to those that participated in this mindset...hang with us and you will be taken care of in your retirement. You will have a pension amongst other benefits that you can depend upon for your later years...
Then came along the bean counters and the 'executive bonus' mongerers that systematically destroyed that dream...whilst all the while touting the same old tired "Keep The Dream Alive" refrain perceiving their employees as five year old kindergarteners that will swallow any pill they offer.
This company made promises. And they have failed to make good on those promises. They have progressively eliminated the intention to do so. The leadership of this company has no moral absolutes when dealing with the people who work here. They have a plan...and that plan is to de-value the person to a non-human...non-person status..all the while demanding everyone go the extra mile and get 'one more shipment' and "Keep The Dream Alive"...nonsense!
We will be eliminated at the earliest possible convenience of the company...we are a liability to the bottom line...that is afterall the only thing bean counters can perceive.
Your contributions over the years mean nothing...your livelihood means nothing...your future means nothing to these people..and your future in retirement definitely means nothing.
We have people running this show that have no clue as to what is happening on the street...and to how it affecting them...nor do they care.
Yes you have future at Con-Way...it just won't be what you were promised...
