New Penn | Where does the loyalty lie at this point ??

Abf buyng newpenn....all the stars would be align, but why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free....

i would think direct access to customer base would be the motivation
the other way it's hit or miss with all the cheaper labor cost non unions out there
the customer base would be largely still intact and not scattered about
since yrc pawned off most of their real estate already abf would be buying a shell of the total package that once existed
in essence not entirely the "whole cow"

Where would NPME operate out of in Baltimore, Maspeth and Newburgh, since NPME will be tossed out by Pyle the day that they are sold. The lease back agreements were made to YRC with that in mind.....Dont forget they n longer own the Billerica and Kearny either...

i don't know about the rest of those cities but here in baltimore there are plenty of empty terminals they could operate out of if the need be.

The other problem I see with ABF buying NPME would be the pension liability. If YRC goes down ABF will be responsible for the entire sum. How would they have the cash to buy anything ?? I think they would be fighting for their lives even with the $190 million they currently have in cash.

obviously if abf buys the new penn operations it would consolidate them into abf's terminals in overlapping areas
pyle tossing them out in that case would be of no real consequence
question would be then, "what would pyle do with tennant less terminals"
consolidation into abf's framework is certainly doable especially now due to lower than normal freight levels, at the very least easier than it would be in "normal times"

furthermore if ups is in the picture, reddaway would be a good fit for them as they have a similar contractual setup along with company pension plans already in place
certainly a good fit logistically

as for holland i am not sure if abf would be interested in purchasing them as abf might just try obtaining as much freight thru competitive practices
moneywise abf might not want to go to the point or down a similar road as yrc did with all their purchases
ups will not venture there as it's aversion to multi employer pension funds is again too large an obstacle to overcome

i hope for all the employee's sake at yrc none of this plays out and they get back onto firm ground

Pyle aint tossing nobody as someone hinted at in the case of NPME being sold. some of the management at ADP are former NPME employees are still very friendly with current NPME management and have openly admitted that their business levels couldn't fill our Maspeth terminal. now if they're info is accurate is anyone's guess. being kicked out of our current yard doesn't concern me one bit regardless of whose the landlord. it's a common thing for companies to lease land from competitors in the LTL market. as far as empty terminals go, there is plenty of vacant properties in Long Island & NJ.

p.s. the bosses over at ADP should lower their voices when they speak. we missed ya Big Steve !

Never mind - This has gotten off topic. I also am not trying to bash NPME or wish ill towards them.

I thought this would be an interesting topic, but some people here want to turn this around.

The question is would you consider decertifying if it meant that NPME would be more attractive to a potential buyer or it would insure the company's long term viability. There is no question that NPME is a profitable union carrier, always was, always will be. The truth is that the union gets in the way of a sale.

The contract ??
The unfunded liability ??

And for the record, from the horses mouth......"We will be in each of the terminals we purchased within 30 days of default. We purchased these terminals to utilize them, not be landlords".

The terminals that were purchased were all in areas that ADP is looking for expansion ever since Steve O took over. The only terminal that fell through was South Kearny which ADP wanted so they can move Carteret operation because of a eminiant domain issue.

Good luck guys

i think all who posted have answered your question about decertifying : NO !

and never mind what the "horse" said. NP guys aint worried. remember, tell them to lower their voices, sshhhhhh........
