XPO | city driver forced to run

Last I heard at our place, the list of "volunteers" , exceeded the number of drivers required to accomplish the mission, so NOBODY was forced to work, who didn't want to......

:bicycle::bicycle:First, let me say that conway has more freight because they dropped the rates so low you would be an idiot not to ship with them. I like to call it "buying freight" open your eyes it's certainly not because of their reputation in the freight business LOL!!!.
Second, Conway will do their driver's any way they want. They have no policy or procedure that you can use in your defense. They will poke and push you and sit back and watch you complain. Then they'll watch you "OBEY". So why don't you fight fire with fire? All you city drivers that are suppose to run Saturday line haul should say "no", and stand your ground together. Force it back up to where it belongs... to line haul drivers (that big bunch of senior cry babies). You dont have to take what they dish out to you if you stick together and stand united. You still have time to stand. Call dispatch and tell them you can't run Saturday and continue to "force from the bottom" back up...to where it belongs, and that is linehaul!

This Saturday work and or holiday work falls under policy 252 if you have work 35 hrs or less this week you will be the first to work on saturday, then it is offered to the lh department. LH drivers are not forced to work. They only force from the bottom up in the service center your in. all DSRs

If that is a policy then they aren't doing it like that in my barn. The only people required to work Saturday are the FAC and LineDrivers, all of whom, got last night off instead while the rest of the service center had to work yesterday. An even swap, Thursday for Saturday, not a bad deal I say. If you are getting forced to work Saturday after having 4 punches last week and there are drivers who only punched 3 times and don't have to work Saturday, that is bullshit. I would be raising hell about it.

There you have it. How to handle this situation is all spelled out right here. Stand up, unite, senior crybabies, just say "no". Wow! Covered all the bases. You go boy. Press on

Wow, Big bunch of senior cry babies? You need to get back on your dirty little forklift and off of your soap box. :attention:

Just say "NO"? Well my little insult throwing friend, you can do anything you want on your last day.

Just my thought but you need to go look in the mirror and answer to that guy before you start chucking commands and insults out. Also, those who live in glass houses, well go ahead and pick up that rock. :ShakeHandsNah:

at my barn they asked from the top for any body to sign up to run on sat only 4 people signed up so they forced all flex guys l/h and city and making them run on sat

That is the way it is supposed to work..

Post sign up sheet...don't get enough then force from the bottom.

It has always been that way to my knowledge...that I understand.

The reason for running the FACs on Sat. after New Years Day makes no sense.

If I am not mistaking, the flex board contains both city/line guys. Now, I can see why there would be "city" guys running on Saturday. If they are using the flex board and you are on it but usually run city, wouldn't that mean you run line if they need you? I have never seen a situation like this before. Usually the line guys can't even work on Saturdays because they have just completed their Friday night trip. So, yes I am really not understanding the ruling here.

rat .. some of the larger facilities have a city flex and a linehaul flex board ... so the city flexdrivers will be forced to run ie force from the bottom ..

From the entire seniority board; Offer to the top, force from the bottom. Always has been. Press on

I was just saying that I am not used to this happening. Usually when there is work on Sat. line guys are not even in the mix because they worked Fri.

This is a whole new situation. In 23 years I don't believe this has ever happened so I am at a loss. I haven't been at work this week so I don't know how they are doing it.

I kind of agree with that. Since it is labeled "extra work" because it is on a Saturday, I would think it should be offered to all and then forced from the bottom. You know, there are some city guys that would love to scratch that itch of running line once but don't want to bid it for a year. This would be a prefect opportunity for them. :shift:

We have a split flex board as well...our l/h flex guys are on the Sat bubble as well as the city flex guys...

They will have the hours and 16 available...(34 hour reset)

I am at loss to understand why the l/h flex peeps would not be forced to run as they will have a 34 hour reset by Mon. nite...I am thinking this is the reason Sat. was chosen...with a noon meet time...hit it...get it...and go home!

See now that is what I don't understand. You guys have a split line/city flex. We used to have that until the grand combining of the Conways and we were told that one company, one set of rules. Back then they said there would be no separate boards. We have one flex board, city board and line board.

This is where you run into problems. One rule for all but then you find that there are multiple rules for all. I play the game and I want to win at it but it is hard if there is a set of rules for different players and what Conway is famous for, changing the rules in the middle of the game.

How does that kind of set up work. At my barn we have one board, the extra board. All extra work goes to that board until they are all used up. You might do city one day, line the next, and dock the third. Actually you will work on the dock and then either go out in the city or on linerun.

It is up to the individual SICs as to whether they want run a split board.

In some instances it is easier to do this...not only for the SIC...but for the drivers as well

It is much easier and safer for the driver not switching from days to nights and back. Proper rest is concern for us all.

When I was at EO we were told any SIC having six or more peeps on the flex must run a split board...that was the policy at that time...but we all know about Con-Way's policies...they are situational...

And there is no 'one' Con-Way or 'one' set of rules...if that were the case we all would be making the same wage...
