XPO | Checking the “Pulse” of Employee Engagement

Companies seem to side step the laws and claim that if a person is driving their equipment, then they have a right to know his medical condition. I already went to court on this issue.

Just not a top ten company...although it could be...and for the demands it requires...it damn well should be.

Top ten company of what kind? This is easily a top ten trucking company.. Name 9 better if this is what you're talking about..

100 Best Companies to Work For 2009: Full list - from FORTUNE

And where is Con-Way on this list???...

Remember...not to many years ago we were named the "Best LTL Carrier to Work For"...kinda disappeared.

Like I said - at least a top ten trucking company probably a top five. I have a close chica friend that works at #52 and it will take her no less than five more years - probably more like ten to come close to what I make as a line-haul driver here now and she has a serious degree. Oh wait, her PTO was not canceled but I'll make more by the end of July than she'll make all year and we'll both turn 30 in December.

Name five trucking companies you'd rather work for than Con-way Freight. I'll pull an easy 80-85K this year just doing my line-haul job.. Name five better..

Time for you to stay in the union forums where you do better ... the "pulse" survey has nothing to do with our health ... they are having us do a survey on how we feel local management is doing ...
First of all Mr. W99. Where did I ever mention anything about a union in any of my posts? Second, I don't care if a person is union or non-union anyway. I fought for this country, I will speak/post freely, within the rules to whoever I feel. We are all Americans that share different views and oppinions with one another. We can all learn and help one another. That is one freedom that makes this country great. :USA: Try reading my profile again.

Why not???...

See my last post about a Booz Allen employee.. #52 on the list at my age makes a little more than half what I do running Con-way line-haul.. And she has a serious degree from a serious university. I have half of a chemistry degree from a Pa state school before I got this stupid idea to drive a truck.. Good thing I found an LTL job at CCX..

Name 3 driving jobs better than Con-way Freight in the East/Central region..

I would really like to have a person "in the know" at the ivory tower explain to me how this V.T.T. program is going to benefit the companies morale problem. Speaking from observations made of the personnel selected at this service center I can't imagine this idealism is going to succeed. At this location 5 employees were selected, one with less than 10 years ltl expierience, three (completely new) with absolutely no prior freight experience whatsover let alone any driving experience, and one with no known driving history at all. These folks have no idea how this company grew to where they are now and what types of very hard and dedicated employees put them here today. This company was an incredible success because everyone involved back in the day took a very serious approach to being proffessional an efficient at what we do. Today things have managed to really go askew and morale from my perspective seems to be, make the most amount of money for yourself with doing as little as possible. That is the unavoidable truth thruoughout the company. Inexperienced employees are not going to fix this only mask the problem with their ignorance!

Well be a good co-worker and help them achieve some goals at Con-way. It all about team work.

Easy enough...

WalMart...self explanatory...check 'em out.

FedEx Freight and National...managed by a CEO that turned a few million dollars into a billiion dollar global company...has a plan and the sack to persue it...we have Johnny and Dougie...

Old Dominion...the only company that seems to have stayed out of the rate wars and is turning good numbers...they will be around long after others have disappeared.

Any other questions?

All the trucking rates will drop more because of it. Warehousing the supplies and truck transportation is the highest paid rates in all of logistics. The truck driving rates may even drop equal to the warehouse rates, just to please and keep their customers. Customers want fast, reliable, and cheaper transportational costs. All US trucking companies will continue to drop their rates to keep their customers. IMO, within the next five years truck transportation rates will continue to decline. Due to NAFTA and the high speed trains that are being built all over in the US.

W. Buffet just bought 2 rail road companies with the last couple of months. The regular freight trains take on an average of 6-7 days from coast to coast. The high speed trains it will take 2 days/48 hrs to get from coast to coast.

Within the last 2 years Northwestern, American, and Delta Airlines have taken the opportunity recently to fly freight from country to country now. Has anyone noticed when going to an airport they been charging for baggage and luggage now? It is all Global Logistics now. Airfreight will be highest paid rates in logistics in the next couple of years. More than 75% of freight all comes from different countries now, with the help of the internet. Little to nothing is manufactured in the US anymore.

Trucking companies such as YRC, R&L, UPS, and Fed Ex all have other companies they own in other countries. Such as China, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and a lot in Europe. They all have a good set up for global logistics. Con-way is good for serving for the customers in the continental US only, but there is always room for a company to expand their services for customers.

If you researched as much as you talk, you might have found that Con-way Inc. and its subsidiaries, operate in 17 countries across five continents. Just saying!

I worked across the street from Wal-Mart drivers at their largest East Coast DC - we make more than they do. FedEx?? Read their board - they have the multiple board thing..That said, if not for Con-way FedEx Freight would be my next choice.. OD, maybe but they have no national presence and make much less. This is hot air - unless you've worked here for over 15 years I don't wanna hear it. If you've been here for less than 10 years you would have already quit and went elsewhere if it was that bad.

No offense intented, but this is why I like running east coast FAC's and will never bid west.. The mid-west drivers at places like XCN, XFW, and XCO used to kill me when I ran those FAC's. They were from areas where the median household income was like 30K but the found reasons to moan about the 80K they were making in 2004. At least the drivers from New England and down south are realistic in their whining.. My favorite FAC's are XCV, NRM, and XNJ because the drivers are realistic about their whining - I can relate to a Brooklyn driver that has to cross the GW both ways on an 80 mile run..lol.. Some dude from Indiana moaning about 85K just makes me have more East Coast bias.. Dude, 85K in Indiana is like 400K in the Tri-State and you're whining.. Besides, the worst wagons I unload are now from the heartland - not down south.

All the US trucking companies union and non-union will take a decline in pay when NAFTA and High Speed Trains come into play. I wouldn't be surprised to see if more trucking companies pair up like YRC did. I can see companies like Old Dominion and Con-way being merged together some day. New company name Old-way.

I forgot about WalMart. Before I started here I used to work for a mom and pop company. I used to pull their trailers and they were great to work for
