How many talks, phone calls, one on one's does it take to get someone out to our service centers to take a look at our JSP process our TM"s have laid down for the 2010 year? Policy has been one way for years (backed by video after video) and so you bid accordingly, but without notice we are informed that this is the policy now, live with it! What is the policy? The JSP enables you to funtion with your family so you can be the best employee you can be, and still have a life caring for your family etc. Enough is enough. Listen to your loyal employees and take a look at the JSP crap going on and then let's move on and kick butt like we always have!!!!!! Come on corperate, we count on you and not the Union, dont let us down.

The problem here is the lack of policy...at least a published policy...just the way they want it.

One poster on the boards would have you think the reasoning behind no published policy manual is because of liability...not so...is because of accountability...something Johnny and the boys will have no part of.

Accountability demands integrity and righteous truth...it demands moral absolutes as a core value...something the above mentioned folks preach to the average employee...but have no intention of practicing at their elevated, self inflated status. The reason we have no printed manual is to allow the powers that be to practice situational management and ethics as determined by the flavor of the moment.

We are expected to conform to certain ideologies as dictated by the palace...on the other hand they seem to have exempted themselves from this requirement. This is junior high/middle school managment at its best...and it is so 50s and 60s it is embarrasing...to think a company who percieves itself as being so cutting edge is so antiquated in its management genre.

The latest video for the most part demonstrates this...not because of the content...but due to the audacity of the presentation...

If only I had stones that large I could rule the world!

policy/bid/caring

It seems to me that the only reason why this is happening at your barn is because your TM was put their to make it happen................I don't think going to corporate is going to help one bit !!!!!!!! As far as policy goes policy is what ever policy needs to be at the time ......... the days of going to the book if you had a question or needed a clarification are gone. Caring???? I don't think so ..... I was told if i don't like it there's the door don't let it hit me on the way out........ there's a 100 guys out on the street waiting to take my job...
Then they wounder about moral. when i first hired on i was told at least 3 to 4 times a day how good a job i was doing, now all i get is not fast or good enough.
Bid........the way its set up they can put you any where they want.......unless you have about 10 years strap then your stuck with what ever they are willing to offer you at the first of the year ......:ranting: sorry but got a pretty bad attitude right now..... I need some sleep.......

your post seems a little vague... what's changed? without notice WHAT? is the policy now? The JSP has not changed at my barn. We bid the first of the year and nothing has changed. You have not identified any specific change in policy. BUT, we sure are lining up to blame corporate for your problem. Policy change is communicated, published, and posted. The change in vacation policy IS STILL ON THE WALL AT XCW. You have a regional HR person, have you contacted them? Once again implementation of policy is called procedure. I would speculate your problem is with your SCM's decisions as to how he will operate the JSP locally.

Slick66's post is like alot of posts found here. Alot of bloviating but no specifics and no facts. Could you tell us what Coperate is. Oh, maybe you ment Corporate as in Con-Way Freight Incorporated.

Dear Merdock
Please help those of us working hard everyday for a common goal of success for Con-Way find and possess a "holy grail" copy of a company policy handbook.I personally have been employed with this ever changing leadership organization for well over 10 years and still haven't scene a complete and full issuse yet.(Acountability may be the issue) New employees ask frequently where the policy handbook is about a particular issue and my answer is there isn't a published copy, so don't ask. Now many of those in the secret chambers of Con-way may state that all you have to do is ask to see a copy, but that probably will be your stepping stone to being terminated. I have yet to see this mysterious policy book presented voluntarily to the general employee pool. Start time bids are at best an incredible attempt to make the employees feel empowered to determine their own destiny. In reality this is managements weekly if not daily manipulation of the labor. Start time bids start in January but, by February in this location they have already been manipulated. Everyone comes in an hour early on Mondays no matter what the volume of freight or your bid is. If a guy bid 8am why would that person want to start at 7am? Company policies should be posted in each service center for reference at any time without question. Is that really so difficult? Why so secretive about this? :ranting:

reference one... policy manual, I agree that policy does change. But in my over 20 years it has been communicated to everyone as far as the changes. If policy was printed on Jan. 1st, 2010 and distributed to all, how much would that cost and who would be responsible to update changes in every manual handed out? Yes policy does change, more often due to state and federal law changes not management looking to screw with someone. Also decisions through court proceedings and litigation often influence how companies must address personnel issues. As I stated before every region now has an HR Director and they are just a phone call away.

reference two... bids, yes we all bid the first of the year by seniority on run criteria for nights and half-hour increments for days. Runs can change daily and the bid board should determine who goes where. This time of year things slow down in the city and freight levels look more like an e.k.g. readout. Adjustment to job assignment and start times can be daily due to freight levels. So yes, there is daily manipulation and this is and has always been part of the common goal of success at Con-Way... flexibility.

In my post I asked for him to explain what exactly is wrong or changed and I have not seen a post with this information BUT, a lot of people are lined up to blame corporate for being responsible. Responsible for what exactly?

Make it available in the employee portal. There you go updating problems done. Also the policy book is in the company's server so you have to be a TM or above to access it.

I think the employee portal is the perfect place to access it. But change is slow. Also, we should be able to communicate via email and the portal with all departments of the company from HR to payroll.

Well you know as well as I that would never happen. Too much employee to employer interaction. They want to make sure that the T.M. has something to do. Then they wouldn't need a personal manager.
