I never did understand how people hit low bridges. Don't you know the height of the truck? Typically over the road reefers are 13'6. It's usually marked on the front of the trailer. COME ON. There are no excuses for not knowing your height and going under a bridge that might be low. I remember one time i aproached a bridge in montreal marked as 3.95 meters. I got out and looked, thinking it was possibly marked lower than it really was. Nope. Right above my windshield.

This reminds me...I need to measure the clearance on my truck in the morning. I suspect its 12'6, but i know its not 13'6... :D

A(nother) solution is to make Highway 61, which passes through downtown Davenport, a business route. That would force truckers to use surrounding interstates. Mayor Gluba says they've asked the Iowa Department of Transportation to change the routes. The city is still waiting for a response.

Meanwhile, the bridge continues to claim unwitting truck drivers. Last year, there were a total of 14 bridge/truck accidents. So far this year, there have been eleven.

Incompetence (of truck drivers) knows no bounds!!
2 PREVENTABLES in one evening = No longer a CMV driver!!

Maybe Davenport is funneling some money to to towing companies of the city, who get to pull the wrecks away?

Excellent proposal Apostolic and such prognostication is applicable to some Roads and some Bridges (Overpasses [or Underpasses]) in Delaware, Pennsylvania and of course New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts.
