R&L is charging notification fee's to their customers, along with every type of fee imaginable...The funny thing is, at my terminal, they never notify the customers, and just load it on the truck...

Had a customer today point this out, and refused the shipment, said we must set up an appointment. I called the terminal, and they told me to tell them if they refused it, there would be a re-delivery fee!!!

Gotta love this place...

You can't make this stuff up!!!

I'm always calling my dispatcher on his BS when I go to a customer and I have a date and time written on the bill for an appointment and the customer says you guys never called for an appointment. He just say well are you calling me a lier? I say no,the customer is.

notification fee (customer very rarely notified)
freezable fee (90* today and had one of these)
liftgate fee
inside delivery fee
limited access fee (if not a factory with a dock,we are told to charge this)
redelivery fee
storage fee
straight truck fee
detention fee
reconsignment fee
I'm sure there are some more I'm missing

Customer gets notified and wants his delivery before Noon. So this turns into a Guaranteed AM delivery without him paying for the service. Or Customer will only be able to get his delivery between 3-5pm. Now he gets a guaranteed hourly window delivery for free. Cant tell you how many home deliveries I go to without a phone call, and then the way we bend over backwards for someone who uses our service once every 2 years.

my favorite ones are the gsds shipments that state on the d/r that gsds fees are waived. asked my tm what happens if we miss one of these deliveries, and was told the shipment would be free. go figure.

What? We charge for redelivery? Since when? I thought this sorry excuse for a company does everything for free.

Oh, so you get fake appointments too, huh? I like the ones at houses. Had one today, 12-4 appt but with no consignee phone number. Go figure. And our last TM not only allowed that sort of ::shit:: but encouraged it. I like to think thats one reason why he ain't here anymore.

Houses, marinas, churches, schools, construction sites, military bases, among other things. I believe the idea is if you can't send ANY driver in ANY size truck at ANY time during normal business hours it's a limited access delivery.

Yeah and it's usually oversize junk freight that some sales parasite kissed somebody's ass to get. I'd like 5 minutes alone with the yahoo in Birmingham that solicited that Royal Canin white glove crap. They're always guaranteed shipments but they always say "must call for appt". Figure that out.

you must be out of hatfield,pa

Most companies charge for all of this stuff.Im at Fedex Freight and we have charged for all of those things since the AF days.We even have a weight validation fee for reweighs on the dock.

ive seen the reweigh fees at our terminal, and to be honest with you, i think they are needed. some of these customers try to ship a 2000lb skid as 500lbs.

This company now looks like any other company.
They have forgot what built this company,
good Midwest ethics, small shippers and not nickle and diming the all the time.
Perhaps a new management and legal team is needed to get the ship back on course.

sounds like fedex...you have to look at R&L busness principals ..they are a trucking co (not a storage unit) customer knows the freight is coming(tracking or they ordered it)why blame R&L????I agree customer needs to be contacted(its called customer service)Fed ex will put a shipment on a van knowing it needs to be on a lift gate..just to get an extra charge..Just smile and say sorry i didnt know.....let the powers at be take the wrap...

Just another means to bring in the revenue. Not that we are seeing the benefit from it as employees. Hopefully they will use the additional revenue to give out raises and purchase new equipment ( I know, I'm dreaming). The sales department has been dealing with this accessorial initiative for months now. The funny thing is I have this one customer who we have had for 5 Years. Now I am being told that 4 of his consignees require liftgate and inside delivery. Up until 2 months ago nothing was ever noted on the dr's. I checked the dr's last week and nothing checked on dr. Shipper ships weekly to the same locations. Doesn't make sense to me.

Corrected BOL.

Special routing.

Some customers do have a agreements in place that get these charges either waived or discounted.
