"I just called the IBT and the girl that answers said they were changes made and Gordon Sweeton is now in charge of the multiregion change committe and the multi change grievance committee. the nimber to call for comfirmation is 202-624-6800 and ask for freight division. Then ask the girl and she will tell you."

Is Tyson Johnson on the Way Out?

February 14, 2012: Reports coming from IBT officials indicate that Hoffa’s Freight Director, Tyson Johnson, may be heading for a demotion. Reportedly the latest issue involves Johnson meeting privately with YRC management about their proposed mega-change of operation.

Gordon Sweeton, Assistant Freight Director, will chair the change of operations hearing on YRC’s proposal, with Johnson sidelined. Sweeton apparently will also chair the multi-region grievance panels. A lot of Teamster officers and stewards prefer dealing with Sweeton.

The YRC change hearing was set for March 1, but has been postponed. It is expected to be rescheduled soon.

YRC’s spokeswoman reports that only the hearing date has changed, and that they “continue to work on the proposed changes with the IBT Freight Division.”

The delay came after management made a bone-head move and implemented part of the change prematurely. They claimed that Columbus Local 413 Teamsters were dragging their feet, and began to reroute freight around Columbus to the Copley (Local 24) terminal.

Local 413 members and officers raised the roof, and the Freight Division canceled the March 1 hearing. Local 413 is slated to lose 121 jobs (64 road, 39 dock and yard, 18 mechanics) in the change, as YRC reduces its breakbulk operations.

It’s good to see that rank and file action can slow down management’s latest move, to allow for more careful consideration.

Is it any wonder that local 413 was involved in the run around. After all their President ran on the Fred G slate. And The TURNCOAT IS said to have held a private meeting with yrc. If it is true SHAME ON HIM! YOUR GLAD HE GOT CAUGHT BROTHER ALWAYS!

Excellent work Jeffro....Hooty out.

he's been on the take in yrc's hip pocket for years. anyone surprised?

On the cover page of the change, the last paragraph reads: "Company representives have personally met with National Freight Division Director Tyson Johnson, Freight Director Gordon Sweeton, and their representives and have had numerous phone conversations with them regarding issues and concerns about this proposed Change of Operation."

All holy heck breaks out. TJ demoted, (thrown under the bus), GS (who was in on it,too) promoted. The only question remains is: Did Hoffa know and when did he. Was TJ and GS doing this on their own, or was Hoffa aware of it?

As far as I am concerned it is a change for the better. YOUR GLAD TO SEE MOVEMENT BROTHER ALWAYS!

Yellow has always been a loser. I have been retired for 15 years and it is sickening to see how this company can survive but would imagine it is through some undercover tactics. If they would have taken TNT Holland or USF Holland`s old way of operating and treatment of employees they gave to employees while I was there, what a company they would be. You need to take some hints from the TV show UNERCOVER BOSS and emplement the good things to straighten out the mess.

I agree totally. POS yellow has always bee a parasite and predatory company. Sucking the life out of good profitable companies and then dumping them off. Yellow should have gone extinct in the 50's and then again in the 80's. Instead they either sucked the blood out of acquired companies or cut the throats of competitors by discounting the crap out of freight rates. FredEx and conjob tried to play this game against them a few years ago and almost beat them at their own game.

Sooner later it all catches up to them. Ofttimes not soon enough. Maybe it is soon enough for the rest of us at the expense of the unfortunate folks at YRC.

Thanks for the response and I would have imagine the good replies as veterans of the trucking industry that have been around for a while realizes the ins and outs of the good policies that successful companies have implemented. I had over thirty years in the union and various positions where I could see errors etc. that these companies committed. You cannot fine tune a company today with this hustle and bustle of traffic on the highways and expect good returns. Take the US government where neither of the parties work together. What a chaos. This is the same thing in the trucking industry or any other business as a matter of fact. When the employees and the company can set down and work unilaterly and agree, then good things will happen.

Didn't we just vote "Mr. Slick" Hoffa into office for another 4 years?
