It is reasonable that the school would be out of service for a period of time given the state of the economy and business levels. It would be senseless for ABF to train drivers and obligate them to servitude when they can't be sure they will be able to work the workers after they are trained. Right now there are drivers on lay-off and working reduced weeks with no real relief in sight. A year might even be a little on the optimistic side. Good luck on your endeavor.

The school was shut down several years ago. The company was & still is in a survival mode. As I remember the company required everybody to attend that was going to drive off of company property. One of the younger men in the shop went there because he would be taking road trips. He already had a CDL with endorsements but he was there for about two days. He was scheduled for a full week but they realized he had experience & let him go home after two days. I understand there is a long list of applicants with experience waiting to be hired.

I know our San Bernadino terminal just had a school a few months ago. But I don't think it was for road(linehaul).

ABF only runs the schools when they need to. We're not a CDL mill.

On the city side there are 4 locations on the east coast that are currently showing classes on the ABF job site.

ABF can have just about as many YRC guys as they want right now. Why would they spend the money and take the risk with trainees?

ABF is incredibly hard to get hired with. I don't know what their criteria is but they have something going on there. For that reason they will train people that pass their screening process.

C'mon it cant be that hard I got hired:)
But they did check EVERYTHING on my application.

They've discontinued the driving school in Chicago for the foreseeable future. They've got hundreds of driver applicants on their desk.

I don't know what training organizations they use or if it's just retired drivers that train you.:shift:

i remember being told that abf used to send the guys for yard training in dayton to malden missouri for that training... i heard from an old timer that abf used to train drivers out of fort smith, but then started using local schools like clark state in springfield ohio... in fact, i know the first one trained at clark state...:1036316054:

They send you to an ABF accredited driving school in your nearest coal region where the women are toothless and cockroaches and bedbugs are viewed as the local wildlife.
