Casual Dock Worker (Dallas, TX) - YRC

Title: Casual Dock Worker (Dallas, TX) - YRC
Location: TX-Dallas
A casual works on an as-needed, on-call basis with no set schedule nor a guarantee of hours.

I can see this happening, for various valid reasons those on lay off don't want to come in for 1 or 2 days a week, hence the need for casuals

Bring a few laid off guys back before you start hiring part-timers would be better. Unless of course your intending to continue cuts in labor cost. Increase in work should mean increase in call backs, not new-casual hires.

wasn't going to go back probably still wont... might take a call here and there but i like my new job too much to turn around and go back into uncertainty. was going to wait and see if it folded up or not. things might turn around for the old fat lady and she may not have to sing after all. whatever the outcome, i wish everyone good luck in whatever avenue they take.

At my barn, they exhaust the laid off list almost daily and have called back over 30 since Christmas. With so many on leaveof absence, it not a wonder they aren't using casuals daily. Instead, we have overtime for all.

and the "no-sters' keep showing up drawing a paycheck....bitching and crying and bitching and crying......the MAJORITY voted yes....you went against your union so adamantly claim to be a member of....what gives ?

And the yes-sters keep bitching and crying about having to hook and fuel in the cold when it is clearing what you voted yes for. What gives with not wanting to do what you voted yes for. And filing greivences when trying to play the system to your advantage, and it back fires.

Show me where in the MOU people voted yes for this ?
I, for one, warned people of the "grey" area that was in the MOU language. I warned of the potential of this crap happening. Now it is happening. My warnings were that the Company added this language for one reason.......because they intended on using it! Now they are using it, as expected. The MOU language did not clearly state that this stuff would happen, but it did leave the door open for the Company to use the grey area in the language. I took a lot of heat from the guys on here for exposing this "grey area" language and it's potential. Most told me that I was full of crap, and bashed me for my thoughts, and claimed that this would never happen. Now......do we have the right to complain about them using the language that they slipped in there? NO. We were warned.

I know....If I don't like it, I should just quit.

N/F sit down pop a top and have a cool one ( it's 12:00 somewhere ) and relax they haven't done anything at all . This thread is about a " ad" and that's all they haven't hired anyone while people are laid off . They YRCW have been running ads in markets all during the last couple of years and we have seen thread after thread about it . Just like some other threads on here people get all mad about a topic when in fact nothing happens . Now if we find out they really really hire someone while people are laid off then everyone can get mad .

it only happened 1 night a few months back but they did hire a few at 653. they only worked 1 night for 4 hours. the supers had no clue about these guys.
if it wasnt in a MOU then it was in the nmfa.but it is there some place..
btw we still have about 100 in lay off.

It was it's Teamster employees that saved this company from certain bankruptcy. We should demand the company do everything possible to get those same Teamsters back to work.

Oh well, like he said..he's full of crap

Now if we find out they really really hire someone while people are laid off then everyone can get mad .

During the 2009 COO Union hall meeting a Yellow driver stood up and said he didn't think it was fair that he was laid-off while a subcontractor was taking freight out his terminal every day. He went on to say that although he appreciated the job the Union got him at the refuse company he didn't think it was a fair replacement for his old job.

I was in the office when the very same contractor came to my terminal in an attempt to reclaim the business he lost when the Yellow terminal closed.

Why would they run the ads if they are not looking to really hire anybody ? That would be like a grocery store advertising a sale ,just to see if anyone would come in to buy the sale item, but not selling it . please re-read your quote "if we find out they really really hire someone then everyone can get mad " ..... and what ?? What will the members do ??

Correct me if I'm wrong R, but haven't we had some guys on here say that their terminal HAS hired some casuals, while full timers are still on lay off? I'm positive that some have reported it.

Don't read this part R......Bite me Joe.
