Estes | Wage Freeze?

I have never stayed at a bunkroom or motel 24 hours. I may have stayed at a place 15 hours at the most before but I can't remember when. As far as nasty motels or bunkrooms. Nobody cares where you spend your break. I know I don't stay in nasty bunkrooms. I have more respect for myself to stay in those kind of places.

Just curious: do you have a choice to get a room instead of stay in a bunkroom? Do you go out of pocket to avoid them, or will the company hook you up if you say 'pretty please'? Prolly a stupid question, but my current company would laugh at us daycabbers if we asked for a motel 200 miles from the yard 14 hours into the day. 'Take a steering wheel nap and rip out a log page if you need to'. See why I wanna work for the Big E? My boss' last name might as well be 'Vader'!

You can stay wherever you like. Most of the time, I'll stay in the bunkroom just because all I'm gonna do is sleep and get up and go. If a room is nasty or noisy, I'll pay out of pocket for a hotel. I refuse to shower in the bunks though. I'll pay the 9 bucks at a truck stop.

Big E pays me well enough that I can stay in a decent hotel if I choose to. Most of them aren't that bad. It all depends on what kind of mood I'm in when I get there.

I can't think of a terminal that has a hotel that's all that bad. Most people hate on the hotel in Dallas, but it's not that bad.

You don't run over your 11/14 hours over here... period. During one of the last freak blizzards we had, I got hung up in Arkansas in the hills and I called Central Dispatch and said I was pulling over at the Days Inn and I'd leave when it thawed. They said ok and I stayed there 2 days. When I got to Little Rock, they asked if the roads were better so they could start running trucks again.

When it got really slow over the winter, I had a couple of 24 hour layovers. Never in a bunkroom. Only one or two in a hotel. Wasn't that big of a deal. It happens in the freight business from time to time, no matter where you are.

Big E usually gets me rolling if I sit for more than 15 hours, even if it's empty to another terminal that has freight.

It's a good place to work coondog. That's all I can say. Lots of things are different from what you see in black and white here.

I'm not a koolaid drinker. Just happy to have a good job. I've worked for much worse.
good answer drummerforhire, some people would whine if you paid then a dollar a mile, and all expenses. I too have worked for a much worst company. Estes won't force a small percent of their work force to take a big pay cut, while the rest of the company stays at the same pay. or go back on their word, like some companies do.
As far as the 15+ hr lay overs, that is rare here. But in the LTL world it is a fact of life sometimes. Try driving for a T/L carrier, and wait 2 or 3 days to get moving, thats a lot of fun.
I don't know anything about a wage freeze. I've been here 7 months and got my first raise right on time. Hope it keeps up.
Estes has good insurance, good pay,and good benefits. So far I am very happy here. Somebody thinks they can do better elsewhere, then I wish them luck.

My job searching stopped after my 1st week here.

They are expecting to get slammed with freight. They don't want to be caught with their paints down.
