Nothing personal towards you Gil, but I think Steve O is tuff but fair. He doesnt put up with the BS from the bottom feeders, and holds people accountable. I guess thats the difference between those onion companies and us, if we dont perform, we are made aware. Any driver worth his or her salt will kick it up. I know I am not going to let my family go hungery because I slacked at work. Not going to say that the hours arent long, but I will take 60 hour weeks over sitting on unemployment worrying about tomorrow any day (which I wouldnt wish on any person).

no offense taken. at least you're one of the few that can engage in grown-man conversation without resorting to juvenile b.s. As for holding people accountable, the same is true about the folks at NP. just because we're union doesn't mean we get a pass to slack off. NP has always been a profitable union outfit.

Got ya... wasnt sure which side of the YRC house you were from. You guys have always ran a good outfit over there, its a shame for you guys that YRC got their hands on you. I havent ever worked in an onion outfit and never want to, thats why I signed on here at Pyle. I might be wrong for stereotyping but from what I know, its almost impossible to get terminated from an onion outfit. My impression is that unless you practically kill someone on the job, you will still have a job.

Just for my own knowledge, if you guys have someone who is slacking and not meeting stops per hour or missing p/u's, how long is it before they no longer work for you? Include going through the grievance procedure and all? Has anyone ever been let go due to their productivity levels alone there? Just curious.

yeah YRC F'd us but that's another story...as for slacking & not meeting stops, they cannot fire you but they will ride u like hell till u get it right. it may not sound like much but trust me they will make your life miserable and honestly, who needs that ? anyone with half a brain can do this job. only the morons, and yes we have a couple, bring the added stress onto themselves.

Even if you get busted for dope ,they send you to a program before firing you.I think you get three strikes and you're out.

10-4 on the morons Gil :6837: Looking at what some of the others wrote, it seems like you cant ever get fired from the onion. Hey for some people, that is great and what they want. Most of the guys in the onion are hard workers too, but its that bottom 10% that have the least productivity but the biggest mouths that make it look bad for the other 90%. Not to beat a dead horse, but those bottom 10% would be gone from here, which is what keeps us on our toes. If you come in and do your job, they will give you an honest days pay for an honest days work. :guiness: plus Steve O while a smart :moon2: can be pretty funny when some of the whinners start up.

while i understand your point about the "10%", good management people can effectively deal with the slackers. instead of playing the immature tough guy role, which alot of management guys do in our business, deal with the guy like a man and let him know he needs to change his ways. im sure with the help of the steward & delegate the problem will go away.

But see thats just it, these guys have been talked to time and time again but dont get it and refuse to change or do the the bare minimum to get the supervisor off their back. From what I have seen, its almost like they have a sense of entitlement and because of that, they shouldnt be held to the same standard as everyone else. The majority of our management will treat and talk to you like the man you are if you show them equal respect. If your an A-hole, most likely they will be one right back to you too. Most companies, its us against them mentality :mf_swordfight:, here we have the lets work together :grouphug: . We are family owned and everyone wants to keep it that way, so we bust our butts. There is no need for an onion or steward here my man, if I have a real problem, I know I can pick up the phone and call Peter and he will actually listen and be realistic about the outcome or solution. Havent had to come to this in my years working here, but I know its always there if I need it. :1036316054:
