TForce | Teamster health insurance

Teamster health plans vary across the country-each area is different. In my area we have Blue Cross PPO or Aetna HMO, our choice. We have copays at the doctors' offices and deductibles in the PPO, different charges apply with the HMO but it is cheaper than PPO. In my area UPS does not participate in Teamsters health plans, they have their own and I believe it is a better plan.

Sounds pretty much what we have. copay office visit $15.00 I have Blue Cross.

Their tactics seem to be working. Package workers to fall under Union insurance plan. Question is will the Union come back in a year or two and say we need to pony up to help pay the premiums.????

The tactics of 1997 worked pretty good to...

I think what you will see is that the IBT will secure an amount that both sides will agree that UPS will pay and then the IBT will shop to get the members the best plan(s) possible for the amount of money agreed upon. With so many people scattered all over the country finding one to accept all members may be challenging. The cost of health care in California is through the roof expensive and getting a trust or group plan to accept the California folks can be challenging. There are lots of issues that we never hear about that will need to be dealt with. I also do not think the IBT will agree that any employee of UPS will pay any amount (out of pocket weekly, monthly) for health care. There are some really good plans out there and some that are not so good. The 2 key things to look for in any health plan, IMO, are annual out of pocket maximums and the co-pays. Most co-pays do not count towards your annual out of pocket maximum so if they both are high it can get expensive.

We will all just have to wait till midnight July 31, 2013. We walk we walk we settle we settle. That is just the way life is...

Hey skeeter I have the AetnaHMO its 10.00 office visit 25.00 specialist, 100.00 dollars emergency room visit. Everything else is covered 100% after that point. Also lab work is 100% no deduct. Dental is 100% no deduct up to 2000 a year. The 2000 a year is what the union pays no what the dentist bills so it lasts a while.

If all of UPS went to it we might get a pretty good deal from the volume of drivers... One could only hope.

I'm in the Western Conference. YRC. The teamster plan is good coverage, but it is expensive. You have to work 80hrs to qualify for it every month. Each working person supports a retiree and that's why it's so expensive. Every local seems to put their own spin on the coverage and expenses.

It's basically 25% under one million dollars and 35% for any bonus (supplemental income) over one million dollars. I'm guessing you fall into the under a million category like most of us. :LMAO:

In Central PA you need to work 420 hours out of a possible 520 hours per quarter. No benefits are paid on any work over 40 hours per week. If you have a shortage, you can pay it out of pocket. At $4-5 an hour you are short, I am not sure of the amount at this time. Or you can go without health insurance for the next 3 months.

I wouldn't worry to much about the insurance right now there is still a lot to be discussed before we get a voteable contract. As for paying more for the ins I might be willing to pay more but only if there is a complete outside contractor ban. Of course just for back round on my comment here I worked for several different trucking companies in the last 10 years including overnite, and several truck load carriers. The ins we paid at jbhunt for a family was $150+ for a family and that came with a $2500 deductible not to mention the pay sucked. Just thought I would throw that in for where the company is coming from. I however won't vote for them to raise the amount we pay for ins enless likr I said there is a complete ban on contractors with no loop holes. And I hate to inform the company but no one I know of at HRS is going to let this even make it to a vote currently.

There will never be a complete ban on contract carriers. Don't waste your time thinking about it...

What are your weekly copays now? Maybe stick with what you have at no cost to you would be the right choice.
I've had both as I was a Yellow employee for 15 years... And my Teamsters Blue Cross was twice the insurance that or UPS insurance has to offer... And I didn't pay $36 a week for it... Our current insurance sucks....

I kind of disagree with you on the insurance issue. Anything can always be better but I think our healthcare is good. The dental is good to. I had deep cleaning and I paid $24.99 a quad. That ain't bad. Deductible for the year was $50.00. So we better read between the lines real careful when they try to move us to a teamster plan. Just like we got to watch the language of this new contract REAL close.

Some say it is more expensive to use contractors than our on drivers. I don't know how that could be so. Would UPS still do that for spite?

Of course they would,............

It seems to me that they are trying to get rid of employees from the moment that they start,.........

If you were in the teamsters plan you would of paid 0,with 0 deduct for the year.I have never paid a dental bill yet all were covered 100%.
