FORT WAYNE, Ind. 2 Different Semi Stuck under 11'8" Fairfield Ave overpass

This would be funny if it wasn't so sad. In 45 years of trucking ..Most of it hauling cars ...I NEVER hit a bridge or any other overhead object. The article says " Drivers don't see this on their Gps or " tom tom ". I'm wondering how I managed to truck 5 million miles without a " tom tom ". This article should say " Two school boy truckers hit the bridge because they have no business driving this rig...but their company has cut the rates so low that they can't hire Professional drivers because of the 1980s wages they pay "

This is the new breed of truckers . Can't get out of the yard without a GPS. Most don't even carry a map and don't even know what a bridge guide is! In 42 years of trucking, with at least half of it hauling oversize loads I have never hit a bridge ! We just had a guy, the other day ,who ran out of hours when going from terminal to terminal because the only way he knew how to get there was on the interstate and he ran 150 miles out of the way. When I asked him if he looked at his truck atlas he said " What's That ". Pretty scary because he used to be a commercial pilot flying Lear Jets !
