As I was crawling under and between 2 trailers to set a wheel chock (our doors are very close together). A few questions came to my mind.
1. When was the last time I saw a safety video?
2. When was the last time I attended a safety meeting?
3. When is there a meeting of a safety board and who is on it?
4. When was the last time I had a preshift meeting?
5. Is it really always 10 days since the last injury at our center?
Now after hitting my head while crawiling out from between 2 trailers I really wondered.
Fedex Safety is it an oxymoron or is it smoke and mirrors?
Not to be completly negative I did read a notice on the bulletin board that our accident rate has been going up.

And why is it FedEx's responsibility to tell you how to be safe? The fact that you even ask the question leads me to believe you know what you need to do.

I'm willing to bet the lack of worthless pep talk meetings to let you know how you're screwing up is more of a failure on your terminal staffs part and not that of FedEx.

The problem is that while you ask your questions, if there were meetings every three days there would be threads dedicated to how humiliating it is that we have to attend these things when we are clearly all well aware of what we need to do. Seems to me that no matter what this company does its never the right thing.
I don't care if I ever have a safety meeting, I don't care if there's a safety committee or if I ever see another pre shift. I have thirteen consecutive years of safe driving and I have never attributed that record to any of the above. Should I crash into a bus full of nuns on Christmas Eve I won't blame the lack of a pre shift or a video tape either.
I am the only one behind the wheel and I alone determine my destiny.

That was well said. We should never forget that. My meet person is waiting for me every night and sometimes a comment will be said about the time I get there. I'm there a hour before my meet time. But I'm the one behind the wheel. Drive safe everyone

They don't hold safety meetings for the benefit of the employees. They hold them, make you sign that you attended, so if someone gets hurt not doing what the safety meeting was about, they possibly use that to deny benefits or in the case of a lawsuit, show that you were informed about the issues. FedEx doesn't do anything for the protection of the employee, it's to protect themselves. Your supervisor staff there are dropping the ball and your SCM's boss should be breathing down his neck to get these caught up and done.

What I like at our SC is that we have to return the chocks to the dock bumper. That means that if you want to use a ladder, you have to step over the chock to get to the rungs. I'm just waiting for some poor schmo to trip over a chock and fall to the ground because I'm not the only one who has pointed out the safety issue in countless meetings for years. Lots of potential witnesses.

Dont let these guys get you down puddle...I get what u are trying to say....I also have many years of safe driving, and agree you dont have to have a meeting to be a safe driver, but it would be nice to be informed...We still have not had a formal announcement about getting a raise...the work boot policy changing...changes to any benefits, policies at work etc etc....we just get verbally bashed on our handhelds because something has come down from up above, so it all becomes the city drivers fault..ex..This "new" old? lunchtime rule is just fine (lunch between 3-6 hrs) But the management created this monster...For 10 yrs u could do whatever you wanted...now we get threatened with discipline?...Are you kidding?....I've been taking my lunch back at the terminal for 10 yrs...now its a problem?...maybe a little pre shift to say "hey guys, this is coming from corporate, or hey guys, we need to work on this a little harder....Not threatening punishment...Also you have a point about safety..When u are asked to do something illegal or unsafe..who do you call?..i have no idea who is our safety person....Anyway, i think these guys should get the point...All documents posted on the board are clearly marked "pre shift and post for 30 days or so?:chairshot: Good luck Puddle....Call your HR guy immediately...If u know who that is?..another secret?

I guess it's been almost 2 years now that they took the safety people away from the terminals at Nat'l. Went to regional safety. So of course you don't know how to talk to. You are a mushroom ( leave you in the dark and feed you crap).

I must be living in an alternate universe (FXFE), because at my SC safety videos, meetings, and instructions are TOO prevalent and a waste of my time (not really because I'm on the clock). The company does care about your safety but they are more concerned about their liability. If you mess up they can show you something you signed 5 years ago saying that you understood not to do that. BTW if you are banging your head on the underside of a trailer, we don't have videos for that.

It may be funny to some out there, but until you have worked in Cleveland,or had to drop trailers there.. Dont laugh....At times the trailers are actually touching each other...no kidding....You have to crawl on your hands and knees to get at the wheel chock...After parking, i go up on the dock, grab the chock...carry it back out to where my trailer is, crawl under the trlr to chock the trailer...Of course it depends on how all the other trailers are spaced...In a perfect world, you can barely get in between...We all know this is far from a perfect world...In fear of write-ups or a safety violation you have to do what u have to do...:Emoticon_digging::Violin:

:cuss: And if you get hurt, YOU have sit down and write a letter on how not to injure yourself again doing the same job you just performed, EVEN thou the company knew about the problem allready. THEY put the blame on you. go figure.:coffee1:

Can you videotape this? Might be useful. Document an unsafe working condition. Lawyers love that.

It's things like this that prove FedEx does not give a rip about your safety. If they did, they would fix a problem like this. The next time some driver gets a hole punched in his head from crawling around where he shouldn't have to crawl around, and FedEx balks, talk to a lawyer.
