Dale Jr. Wins Daytona 500

NASCAR is getting desperate for ratings. Everyone knew that's how it would end.

Oh please, every time Jr wins, people say it was fixed. What a bunch of bull. If that were true, he would have won more than twice in the last 5 years.

Jimmy Johnson will win the Lowes motor speedway in a dramatic finish. He probably won't pass on the outside this time on the final lap because that was a little over the edge.

I havent watched Nascar in years. i can remember at work or at customers Nascar was all people talked about. the fizzle is gone.
I use to go to 8-9 races a year and now I hardly watch it, there's only about 5 min worth watching. If they made it a noon till 4pm on the dot race, I'd turn it on at 3:55

well i sure am glad NASCAR is fixed.....unlike wrestling...!!! that would be a travesty....!!!

Cool to see Jr get the win, even more cool for the winless streak to be broken at Daytona. Sr was never so lucky, having been so close so many times, then having just the one win, and then having his life snatched away at the very place that had been so tough to beat.

Fixed?

I really doubt it.

Would the death and injury of the competitors be part of the fixing?

Not all races are fixed but I do remember Jr's car being noticeably faster at the restrictor plate race track after his daddy past. He passes something like 8 cars in 8 final laps and everyone cheers like it was the driver. These cars are fixed to go a certain speed on that track. Bobby was winning the Lowes race when the Lowes car miraculously passes him on the outside on the final lap on a track that's hard to pass on the inside. The frustration kick to the wheel of bobby's car was the finishing touches. Don't get me started on the female that can't drive. It's entertaining though. I'm nearly 100% on guessing when the caution flag gets thrown.

Anyone who doesn't understand restrictor plate racing would think there was a fix in. Dale Earnhardt was a master at understanding the draft. He studied and understood the wind currents, where to place himself to gain optimum speed and the absolute lowest coefficient of drag and he passed that knowledge to his son. Anyone who questions that knowledge only needs to refer to the the 2000 race at Talladega when Earnhardt Sr. came from 18th place to 1st in something like 10 laps. His car wasn't any faster, he just had a better understanding of how to race at restrictor plate tracks. Just like Junior does.

What really impressed me Sunday was the restarts. Junior played it perfect, not getting too far ahead where others could get a run on him but still maintaining his advantage. That's a tightrope to walk that takes a high level of skill and judgment. The push from Gordon on the last restart didn't hurt either.

Dale Sr. wore a open faced helmet cause he figured out the drafting technique and said in an interview he could feel and hear the wind knowing where and when too pass

I always fire up a Cuban cigar and crack both windows and study the aerodynamics when I need to catapult myself around a JB hunt truck. Only Cuban cigars give precise wind pattern. I've learned that skill all by myself
