Just had an interview recently for a driver apprentice position locally. They say its for city runs in the freight divison. Hoping to hear back soon. Would be on the docks through the training and then once in a truck would be dock/trucking. They say its a city route. Not sure how many hours but pay is approx 22hr. Any city fedex freight drivers here? Can you give me an idea of what I would expect take home pay wise? They said minimum of 40 hours per week, do city drivers get much overtime?

They did mention the lowest guy in seniority that is on the ltl road board has been there 9 years. So it will take a while to get a terminal to terminal run.

I been with the company for 8 months lately I been getting plenty of overtime especially around this time of the year back in January or February it's pretty slow was just getting 40 but now I'm around 5 to 8 hours of overtime per week

I thought it sounded good cause the guy was willing to wait it out 9 years.. If the place was bad wouldnt he run? lol

Whats eol and i assume its bad? End of line?

EOL...End Of Line...............is any place that has no through freight going from coast to coast. For example the whole state of Florida or California could be end of line places. Best thing is to find a terminal where freight goes east west and north south so there are plenty of runs to choose from.

I think one of the people I spoke to mentioned it was one of twelve hubs in the states... would that be eol? He said he had a lot of city and road slots in the place.. it looked rather big

It all depends on where you are. Every center is different. If you get hired on, plan on being a dock worker for a while. At my center it takes 6-12months before you start your training. There is a long backlog of driver apprentices and a short list of Driver Instructors. If they can't get you started training in your region, they will send you somewhere in the country to do it. They are pretty strict with keeping dock work at 40hrs for D.A's. You will then train for I believe 6 weeks. After completion you will be city driver and have to do that for at minimum 1 year before you are allowed to change jobs.Overtime depends on the center as well. Usually when everyone is getting a lot of overtime, they hire a bunch more. They always try to keep overtime at a minimum. Good Luck.
