can anyone give us the status on xco trying to go union

We had another meeting with the teamsters today. We are working on getting enough signatures for a vote. We talked that we need to get other terminals involved so they will not be able to route freight around us. We are still 100% committed to making this happen.

great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!now, send them south........

Send them here too please.. No, no, and no..hahahaha.. That 90K I made in 2010 is an injustice.. It really is.. I used to fight a lot for fun so send those "reps" over here if they wanna intimidate.. Please do.. I'm the easiest going person you'll ever meet but send some thugs to my townhouse and I'll do what I need to do..

send them south been there done that had little or no support but its changed and we will meet with the teamsters in the next couple of weeks it will take 3 or 4 meetings to get the majority that will be about 70 or so drivers. once they understand i believe it will happen.

gee micro brew you need anger management or something. We live in democratic society; that was then and this is now. The majority rules and society changes with age if this happens you may want to go else where.

I hope it all works out for you people, but Im afraid your about to find out the kind of (team players) you realy work for!

OK, given the benefit of doubt. Has any one ask this union rep or did some research of how Con-Ways operation would change? It's not so much of having freight routed around XCO, but the operation as a whole. As afar as I know YRC drivers don't work the dock. You throw some clothes in a bag and leave when they tell you to. You get back home when they tell you too. I knew a retired Yellow driver. before he died he would tell me that he would be out for 3-4 days running around doing terminal transfers. Be careful what you ask for.

I think there is a big mis-conception as to how a Union Company operates. Too many horror stories floating around out there. I work for NPME and it is a good place to work even though it's Union. Worked for Con-Way Eastern before that. The only Con-Way that was Union. Was a decent place to work at. At NPME all city drivers are combination work the dock and drive. Our line haul drivers do not work the dock, and can not be forced to stay out on multiple layovers. Everyone wants to use YRC as the example, but there are many more Union LTL companies out there that are much to better towork at. That is no slam towards the men who work for YRC.

We did ask about that. We made it clear that we did not want to change the way Conway operates. They do have a section in freight handbook that covers what we do. You will still drive and load/unload your own freight. Our day to day should stay the same. Our biggest concern is the company will route freight around us and terminate jobs just to make a point. We don't lay off here. We terminate. Something else that will change with representation. Thats why we need other terminals to go with us.

I'm not really the kind of guy to stand up and start getting my co-workers involved (not knowledgeable enough) in this but AM VERY interested in at least learning more and more. My barn is on the east coast and it would be difficult to route around our barn especially due south of us which sounds like a plus.... Have mentioned in passing to a few drivers about whats going on there but each driver is very guarded about expressing themselves about their opinion out of fear of reprisal I think. I'd really like to see it go to a vote anyways.....

Unions protect the lazy. It is that simple.
I too have had experience with teamsters, carpenters, stagehands and electricians. Every one had the same mentality, "That's not my job."
They were more concerned with break time than getting something done.

I've actually seen a union guy carrying something, hear his foreman yell, "LUNCH!", and the guy dropped the item he was carrying on the spot. Couldn't even walk the 20 feet further to put the item where it went, THEN go to lunch.

I'll never forget, I saw a guy wearing a union T-Shirt for some IBEW local about 8 years ago; on the back it read, "Shorter Hours, Higher Pay."

He might as well have had a shirt that said, "I'm lazy."

Lazy???,............I don't think so,.................

You ever see a lazy UPSER???,..............I know I have not, and yes I am one,...

If I were to be hurt doing anything work related while on lunch or break the company would not allow a work comp claim,.........That is why one should never work on a lunch or break,.....

I only do my job as directed by my employer, The things they want done the way they want them done,....Anything else would be considered stealing time and I would lose my job,....

Shorter hour with higher pay sounds good to me!!!

What kind of stupid idiot wants to work longer hours for less pay???,........You????

It's not so much of having freight routed around XCI, but the operation as a whole. As afar as I know RC drivers don't work the dock. You throw some clothes in a bag and leave when they tell you to. the idea of change within a company's operating methods are a long way off from initial organizing. What should be communicated is what those who sign a card, each individually, want or expect to change in the operating system of the company. The other carrier's labor contracts would be of little comparison in regards to operating rules. Seniority, staffing, sub-service, all included in "here-after" clauses in most labor agreements. In the mid-west a grocery company has J.B. Hunt pulling their loads... in addition to their own union drivers. The labor contract negotiations allowed the change to use of sub-carriers. So what received protection in this example, jobs or the company's operating ratio?

If this attempt to organize the labor force at XCO was considered by the company to be serious enough to move forward, then they themselves would be holding meetings with the employees.

Someone should start a post in the right place asking employees their opinions as to what specifically should be in an initial labor contract.

I hate to tell you, but Conway already protects the lazy. Look at the temp dock workers. They don't work, thats ok! We'll just bring in more. Our motor move per hour and cross dock have gone in the toilet since they started bringing them back in. I don't know about your barn, but some of our temps have CDLs and are allowed to drive the hostlers. Only a matter of time before they are on the road and bye bye to the flex board.

LOL.. Bring them up here son.. I'm a native New Yorker which should make me pro-union but I grew up watching them in NYC pool halls and am not impressed dude. It's a bunch of loosres getting a cut from your check.. Please send them to my townhouse - especially their muscle or lack thereof..lol.. You guys are something else man..
