FedEx Freight | What kind of example is this ?

All I have got to say is that it is a policy that the company has posted so if one gets caught or busted, he or she must deal with the consquences. Simply put, you have nothing to worry about if you follow the policy. On a somewhat similiar topic, some of these tractors are disgusting. There are a few awesome drivers that take pride in everything they do. One of the many things they do is ensure a clean, well-maintained tractor. It is disgusting and sad to see how poorly kept a few of the tractors are ( based on our yard).

maybe you guys are taking me wrong. I guess i take the good with the bad. i also have learned to pick my battles. smoking is a tough road to go down and if your ratting on a good guy then its a battle not worth fighting.. to me. I would rather fight other fights then get into it about a guy needing a cig. i don't blame him or her for having a smoke. i chew and its in all damn night. i couldn't even think about someone telling me not to chew i would find myself unemployed quickly. I guess I'm sympathetic with the smokers.

there after some sleep maybe its worded so i don't hurt someones feelings

Now you just start a whole another battle with the spit all down the door. LOL!!! Go have another chew.

It is company policy ,"NO SMOKING IN THE TRUCKS".Do you see the office people sitting at there desks puffing away? No, they go outside on there break and do there smoking.

Why can't the drivers show the same level of disipline?

Are the drivers weaker somehow? Is there addiction to nicotene stronger than anyone else?

I know I will get some nasty feedback from some of the diehard smokers out there, but all of us nonsmokers have been subjected to to there inconsideration countless times.

I know it has always been an issue for me.

Its also company policy that all trailers and tractors must be locked between stops and even at service centers. Nitpickers...where is the outrage on this one at? I dont see drivers dragging redshirts out to see this type of legitimate policy violation. Does everybody fasten their seatbelts on forklifts ? I could go on and on with the stuff that people dont or wont do.In my 20 years of slip seating nobody complained about smoking until it became a company policy. I do agree that HEAVY smoke odor and burn marks and butts/ashes all over the place is unacceptable.Smokers...would it kill some of you to crack a window and not make it so obvious ?

Maybe people just grumbled under their breath before it was a policy because they had no grounds to complain. The way they bid the tractors now is another good reason for the policy. The next guy shouldnt inherit an ashtray.

In an International it doesn't make that much different rolling down the window as you can't shut off the air circulating through the vents and back into the truck. I used to smoke but quit over 9yrs ago. Cancer runs in my family. It was tough but I made that decision. Now the smell makes me sick. Before they enforced the policy the ones who smoked knew which truck was ok to smoke in. I had stickers on mine so they wouldn't smoke in it. One city guy still smoked in it and I asked him to stop and quit spraying that noxious crap to cover it up with. This same driver drove my truck after the policy was changed and smoked in my truck. If I didn't like it before what makes this time any different? I put another sticker on the window just to remind him about it and he tore it off and threw it in the trash. He smoked in it again and I mentioned to the ops supv about someone smoking in my truck. He must of said something to the driver as he went ballastic and cussed me out and threatened me with bodily harm if he lost his job for smoking in my truck. I try to keep my truck clean and stay on top of what needs to be taken care of with regards to maintenance. Half the time people drive my truck and don't even fill out the DVIR book. Damage is done to the truck but no one knows who drove it? Whatever. If a driver wants to smoke in a truck I don't care as long as it isn't mine. Isn't the sweat smell bad enough without the lingering cigarette smell added to it?

And how does you not locking your door affect my health in any way? (I do lock my door every time. It's a stupid rule, but I made it a habit a long time ago)

Does everybody fasten their seatbelts on forklifts ?

Once again, how does this affect my safety?

I do agree that HEAVY smoke odor and burn marks and butts/ashes all over the place is unacceptable.Smokers...would it kill some of you to crack a window and not make it so obvious ?

Why make excuses for someone breaking the rules? I don't care if you smoke in a truck, just don't expect me to drive it after you do.

You are comparing apples to chain link fences here. The "smell" you speak of is called 2nd hand smoke. It causes cancer. I made a choice to quit smoking years ago. It was my choice to start as well. I accepted the risk when I did start. Sharing a truck with a smoker takes away that choice if he/she smokes in the truck.

The other rules you break don't affect my health and safety.

Now don't go racing around the parking lot doing 60mph, that would be different.

How does not wearing a seatbelt on a forklift affect your safety ? Really ? Try running a skid into a trailer and having your forks too low or the bottom of the mast catch on a buckled dock plate platform and I GUARANTEE you will put it on after your broken ribs and chest heal up !

It's a tough road to go down. We can not compare forklift seatbelts to smoking.. C'mon
We can not have smoking and non smoking trucks. That would be a severe headache.
I'm starting to see why the "no smoke in trucks" is there now.
I don't smoke so go for it. I give up :)

ride down the road with the window open and smoke who cares, it's your lungs but for God sake don't roll all the windows up and turn the A/C on recirculate (orange light for you dumbasses) .... Thats what pisses me off....

You not wearing your seat belt does not affect my safety. If your actions affect me, I care. If not, feel free to do what you want if you can get away with it. You are comparing smoking in a truck to locking the truck door. One doesn't have anything in common with the other.

Yeah that's what my city guy does. It sure does stink !

I bet some of you guys are real fun to live with. We are not able to fix nothing else in the co, so go after the smokers. Its worse than a crack smoker. Most addictive thing I've ever done. There is info on both sides of the fence about second hand and third hand smoke, I really think its just to get more money out of the cigg co's. And I do know its a nasty habit. I was accused of smoking in someones truck and I never did but I think he was just wanting no one to else to drive it but him. Ive done forgot were I was going with all of this, but hey, keep up the complaining, and maybe just maybe, we will all have to wear astronaut suits with helmets and everything to drive for Fred EX. Y'all Have A Great Weekend.

A smoker's actions affect every driver that drives after him. Why should everyone bend for less than 25% of the population?

My eyes get scratchy, my nose clogs with snot and my clothes stink after 5 minutes in a smoker truck. There's 3 reasons I complain.

No but I see my center mgr, assistant manager and just about any other boss sit at their desk and spit into trash cans. So if they dont have to Lear their workspace I shouldn't. Also I get tired if stepping in it on the dock and the steps of the fork lifts.
