Talk to a UPS driver Saturday morning said rail people said they could no longer meet there time demands they are hiring 30 or more drivers in Earth City Mo.

Another way to put drivers out of work, make late deliveries, and save a buck.

The rail segment of FXF seems to be pretty damn big in this area.

In Chicago I heard that UPS is hiring btwn 30 and 40 sleeper teams to run from the Chicago area up to MSP and back.
Something to do with the fact that the BNSF line from Chicago up to MSP has issues. The drivers will run up to the railyard up there, and just D&H and just keep on turning it. 4 day weeks M-T

The only thing that will slow down purchase transportation and railroad loads is capacity..

Capacity = Higher prices
Higher Prices = Move thru our own network

The way it was explained to me were these approximate costs to FXF for moving freight...straight from the TM @ NHS

FXF meet/turn $2.40-$2.50/mile
PT $1.85-$1.95/mile
Rail $1.00-$1.10/mile

they said the rail is full of grain ,oil, coal, and it pays better then freight so they are not hauling it anymore. mostly on rails that connect to those 3 main items. A friend of mine woks for ups and told me that is why they are hiring more drivers.

Rails are the new big thing everywhere. I wonder what it feels like to call a customer and explain that their freight was lost on the rails somewhere between California and new Jersey.

Rails also are pretty rough on freight as well. When I vacation near port clinton ohio on holiday weekends there's a main rail line that runs right by our condo and it's packed with the all the big transportations rail cans. Fedex ups ABF yrc holland all piggy backed on the rail cars.

How many points does the railroad get when they roll a trainload of our trailers off the tracks

How many times do you here that a train load of trailers off the tracks killed a family of 4 on vacation???

this is true....1 thing missing they CAN NOT control that purchase driver....if he stops @ the truck stop and after a BIG meal is tired...poof...nap time...also...SNOW..I ain't runnin...hmmm another Truck stop.....R/R another issue...they usually don't move unless the whole train is loaded..so there are some issues to each senerio...

Less often than I hear about a train wreck wiping out a town, so what's your point.

This place has brought ALL THERE ISSUE'S on themselves...... don't feel bad AT ALL! Ever since THE OLD MAN PASSED this place charges the most and profits the least.. BLAH BLAH BLAH on our meetings .. Don't bother telling the drivers the company isn't meeting numbers when CARELESS decisions are made everyday.. I challenge every driver on here to start a daily log with issues that arise cause of senseless decisions and actions... make a comparison at the end .. does there actions or ours cause THE MOST GRIEF! (Intermecs, Central, Reloading or rehandling, seals, placarding) understand.... Them ) us missed gates (why) DOT improper loading (why) Getting authorization to go around mishaps that cause delays (why) waiting on hold..... on hold........on hold.....(why)
