FedEx Freight | Weigh Stations - What to expect?

Do a good pre-trip inspection prior to depart so you know all is good. If weight is in question, cross scale at yard prior to depart, refuse to pull overweight loads.. Put your phone down. That's about it.

OK. Have your paperwork in order. Make sure placards are in place if required. Good pre-trip. Neat and clean demeanor. Good attitude if called in. Permit book in order. Always the professoonal Etc.etc.

Is there an influx of dockworkers, now drivers, just hitting the streets, and have no clue. Once proud, now ashamed.:nono_h4h:

OK. That might have been a little harsh. There is a nice little video we have to watch every year about weight stations. Ask your CSM if you can veiw it again.....Don't have french fries in your logbook.

Don't depend on the dock redshirt for your HM paperwork and placards to be correct.
Learn hazmat! If you get a HM ticket, you own that puppy and they are not cheap.
Read your paperwork, especially the bottom half of your HM travel copies, billing clerks are not infallible and mistakes get made. Unfortunately the person in control of the freight at the time of the citation is the one who pays.
Also, some cops don't know HM as well as they think they do.

Nuff said, end of rant.

One more thing, if your meet driver brings you a HM mess, don't leave until it is resolved.
They can not force you to pull something that is not legal.

. Spot on. When I first got into driving the one thing that was literally beaten into my head regarding DOT rules and regs was that you could lose money faster than you could make it and crossing the scales has the potential for one being subjected to the equivalent of a full cavity search........I hear the term CYA often. So a driver better keep it clean.

Here's one for ya... First let me say I Was Not There to see it, but I pretty much trust the guy who told me..(another Joplin driver) . Yesterday a Joplin MO driver was held at the scales 3 hours because of,,, a flat tire, no tail lights, improper placards,,, and carrying URANIUM.. Not sure but IF it was the Joplin scales, they have a framework you drive through with multiple camera's, heat sensors, AND radiation detectors... This driver is the same one that a couple months ago after Joplin lost a road driver (killed) in a motorcycle wreck , said in front of several drivers he wished a couple more would die so he could move up some more... That part I know is a fact.... Carma ???? Check your stuff drivers.... Last thing I do before crossing the scales is look in the mirrors to make sure the side and top trailer lights are on ...... If they are,, chances are "pretty good" you have tail lights...

If in North Carolina, if the light stays green at the pad, whatever you do for God's sake don't even THINK about stopping just keep on rolling slowly across. Should you choose to stop, May Jesus help you!

We are having trouble with overweight trailers out of Chattanooga! Brand new terminal and no scale! I pulled a 24k trailer and got to my barn and it was 3500 over in the nose! I have brought to my manager attention and it still goes on! When the scorecard was rolled out a safety guy from corporate was here explaining. I asked him what we should do about it, and he told me to drive to the nearest truck stop scale and weigh it. I then ask if they would pay our mileage back to terminal if we were overweight? He SAID that's up to central!

Bottom line is people! Overweight tickets count on your license now, and all these tons of part-time employees don't know how to load high and tight much less load weight correctly!

CYA people! Good pretrip on equipment! Double and triple check hazmat paperwork! I've had thousands of pounds of hazmat and no placards! I HATE THESE NEW WHITE SHEETS TOO! If a dispatcher forgets red sticker you might miss hazmat paperwork! So I usually go through all my paperwork just in case.

Finally keep your log within 4 hrs of current time. It just takes a second so save the dumb excuses! When you stop to kick a tire. DRAW A LINE!
