Just seeing if anyone heard anymore about a lane configuration for august i heard that harrison hired a outside company to do the lanes over didnt know if anyone else heard or knew anything

From my view, anything would be better than what we have going out here in the pac NW. and some of the wild rumors that are floating around that deal with the new Hrmiston OR hub (HOG). I guess we will wait and see what happens with this next chapter in the FEDEX saga!!

My wild guess: In the beginning all Fedex Freight employees received benefits, even the part timers. They changed to a hub-spoke system, and eliminated all the full time dock workers. You could work part time with no benefits. Then they started on line haul. We'll use sub haulers to fill the empty miles, of course you will. They just love the Fedex Ground business plan with all the contract workers who wear fedex uniforms, drive Fedex equipment, but don't collect Fedex Benefits. Here is how a typical job for Ground reads.

Driver FedEx Ground Drivers Needed Full and Part Time drivers, dedicated run 2265 miles weekly, night work, 38-40 cents per mile based on experience, 2.5 cents per mile monthly safety bonus. Valid class A CDL, 1 year driving experience, doubles endorsement, dependable, clean driving record, drug screen, and background check, (304)

When they get done with Line Haul, guess who is next? All you local drivers and mechanics don't get too fat and happy, your next. Just my thoughts on the subject, happy trails TP

We have been a hub and spoke since American Freightways. I dont buy any of this contractor talk,or the impending doom. When we bought Watkins they undid the contractor portion. Noboby can produce anything but an opinion on this subject.Dont get to fat and happy? I dont plan on walking on egg shells in fear of my job either,or prematurely quitting before " something happens". Where is there to go? And I have only heard crickets when people say " big changes coming in April...or May....August?"

That would be a nightmare for the company and the customers. Express isn't contractors for a reason. Ground has always been contractors since it was Roadway package, and they will always be second to UPS as long as they are contractors. Too many choices out there in the LTL Freight market for shippers to put up with contractors picking up and delivering their freight.

If that was the case that trigger would have been pulled long ago. Pot stirring you are very good at TP. Express has been hourly for how long? Raises last two years what you say doesn't add up. I would believe it if all bennies would have come to a screaching hault, but 9 raises in 10 yrs at fedex shoots your theory in the keester!

I have absolute faith that this outside consulting firm will declare that the west had it right all along and everything will go back to the profitable days of yore.
Now please excuse me while I go take my drug test.

Richard Cranium...damn I'm slow. After all these months on the forum it just now came to me.Lets see...Dick is short for Richard and cranium is the scientific name for head.Thats a good one man.I have a confession...the longer I work here the more I find myself not totally disagreeing with you.

Ya know you might not be too far off track here. AF had the system that moved freight 2 days from Denver to almost all of the East, And I have learned here on the T'boards that Viking had a linehaul that could move freight efficiently and for profit West of Denver. National still a mystery to me, but they were a large company that was profitable. So,if it is true that AF's linehaul will be re-implemented East of the Rockies... Viking's linehaul must be re-implemented West of the Rockies. National or (economy) may be in it's final weeks of existence.

u guys kill me about the national ::shit::. I wounder what u guys bitched and whined about before they even bought watkins? it must have been really boring since all u guys do is complain about national. have a great weekend wondering what the national guys r doing.

The former Watkins is NOT going to be around for much longer. And by the way, Watkins is the reason that we are in this mess now. They were unable to assimilate to the Fedex system. So they were merged (that is what happened in January 2011) and soon that mistake will be rectified. Economy (Watkins) was a mistake from the beginning... it was purchased so it's assets and operating authority could not be bought by a competitor to Fedex. A war is won by a series of small victories, Watkins never did fit into the Fast-Freight model of what Fedex had built with AF and Viking. They wanted to sell Watkins a long time ago but it was cheaper to dismantle Watkins this way (4 year waiting period) You will see shortly.

Geez,,,, I guess I missed something somewhere,,,,, (not the first time) .... I thought National was no more,,,, and we were all Fedex Freight..... hmmmmmm

One of the reasons Fed ex bought Watkins was for there holding north of the border it was cheaper to buy them then to continue with the third party we where dealing with

That's right. And then there was Fedex Freight Canada, they just seemed to emerge from the shadows about a year before the purchase of Watkins. And now they are Watkins up in Canada. It is just business... nothing personal right.

Popcorn what the hell are you smoking? do you not remember when freight took all of our freight. In the beginning and national had a very smooth operating linehaul. Not like freights hurry up and wait bull while we pay to to sleep inside your truck untill your bills are ready. If anything economy freight or should I say Los de national is running way better then priority but I'm just a driver IMO.

The dock operations and linehaul operations were NOT a path to profit! I do not smoke anything. Watkins was fine by itself but did not fit into what Fedex had built with AF and Viking. Economy was a Marketing Campaign that is ALL it was. They had to merge because of the seniority issues of the workers. Now, with another re-alignment done region by region you will see what I am talkng about. Watkins, National, or Economy is about to end longhaul LTL the FEDEX way.
