Had my dot physical last night and blood pressure was high, 171/106 never had a problem before, so went back this morning to recheck and it was 171/94 . got a 3 month but I'm worried that it will be the same as sleep apnea that od will disqualify me until it is under control, am i thinking correctly? can anyone give me some insight on the matter? Im stressing myself out over this matter causing my bp to remain high i think,,,thank you in advance.

Go to your doctor and get on medication to lower your blood pressure. I realize your worried about your job , but its now time to worry about your health. Your heart is working way to hard. This is serious. It's time to eat right and exercise. It can be lowered with exercise, diet, and medication. When you get it down go back for your D.O.T. card. You will have to go every year from now on. I have been through this. I believe if you fail again you will be a DQ(disqualify)

Everything these other post say you should do. 3 months is a lot of time. Also people make the mistake of going in on a empty stomach. That's only if your getting blood drawn. Being on a empty stomach will spike your BP. Eat 1/2 hour or 1 hour before a BP reading. No stimulants either. Coffee, Sugar, B vitamins, salty foods. I generally eat acouple of bananas and a glass of milk before I get my BP taken. Seen a doc send someone to lunch cause his bp was high and he didn't eat. Was spiking his bp. It will give you an inaccurate reading if on a empty stomach.

Get on the meds. Start changing your diet, exercise. Is the best key. 3 months is plenty to get it into check.

OD does not honor 3 month medical card's .That was my understanding..I may be wrong..But,good luck&remember your health is #1..So work on getting it down...

Well, I've always had to fight to keep under 90 since high school. Even as a lean and mean Marine. Get spikes, usually in a medical setting/stress/nervous environment, (childhood trauma issue). BP meds tried 15 years ago, due to a VA doc made me pass out when not stressed, (Low BP does this). So, I always did the diet and other things to keep BP low. There now is newer meds that allow/control BP fluctuations. Don't kick in unless under stress. Started this year, yes now it's a yearly trip for DOT card, yet feeling healthier. Doing Apnea study on my own next month, few fellow drivers have done the same and are feeling better. It's all about health, and not just doing enuff to get by. There are Men's Health specialists, find one, listen and act. Yourself and your loved ones will all feel better.

thanks to everyone who replied. Yes I know my health is number one that is why a dr. visit is imminent, but just wanted to know if my suspicion about the 3 month certification was correct.

A driver at my barn is having diabetic issues and on a 3 month card, he is still driving. They probably do not honor for new hires but once your employed I see that they do. I do not know how many 3 month cards they will let him have but at least once they will.

We also had a driver on the 3 month due to diabetic issues. 3 days on a proper diet was back to normal, yet now is marked. Reason to see your normal Doc a month or so before DOT physical. My Doc use to give DOT physicals and most others are up to date on general issues to get under control. Most can be put under control in a few days or a couple weeks at most. A hearing aid is in my future in left ear.

7 of 9 linehaulers are 50+. Believe only 3 total are not on the DOT yearly. Doesn't matter if issue is corrected, once marked, it's the routine. Making sure you stay within guidelines.

All good advice..... Here's mine. Don't wait to see your own doctor. The earlier you start, the more time you have to correct it through diet and excercise. I went 4 years before I had to go on meds after my first 3 month card. Remember, 99% of the time, once you go on BP meds, you will be on them for the rest of your life. Getting healthy is a lot harder than taking a pill, but it will be much better for you in the long run. Good luck.

start juicing fellas, get exercise and get off your butts. DOT wants lance armstrong driving these trucks so if living under a roof is important to you i suggest you start walking and put down the Mcdoubles and large fries. I started juicing on July 25th with a breville juicer...no food just juicing. I started out at 215-220 and am now down to 196 and i feel good. My bp and diabetes all came from sitting on my butt all the time and not moving around, no excuses just do it. Lord knows i had plenty of excuses myself.

Yep, you are correct, only I'll quit before giving up a nut. Lot of ideas on getting healthy. I took the whole body approach, no fad, long term change, in steps 48lbs since Apr 26th. Eat hardly any processed foods, grill/bake meat. Exercise. Headed out now to walk 3 or 4 miles. Joints wont handle jog/run, so walk as fast as can with weighted vest. Pound in vest for every pound lost. Don't take long to realize how out of shape a person was/is.

Ruffian..i do the same thing. i walked 7 miles yesterday at my local state park and about to go pick up my new mountain bike at my local FEDEX service center. I do walk with an army type ruck sack and fill it full of water bottles, excellent idea about pounds lost to put it in, im gonna do that. I havent had Mcdonalds or anything like it in months however living in the south i can be deturred by a morning sausage bisquit but no sweet tea, just a bisquit and water, milk or oj. Keep up the good work. Last night was a salad and tuna steaks.
