I'm new to Conway(two years in) and never worked for a union so I really don't know what LLA going union means for the rest of the FAC's and SIC's.
 
It means they are going to route freight thousands of miles out of the way. The bottom 90% of your board is going to be laid off. You will have to give 80% of your check to socialist gangsters. Big men with baseball bats are coming to your house to bust up the place and then force you to learn the secret handshake.
 
In the meeting, they said business as usual...everybody treated the same.there is no agreement in place with the union and could be several months to years before there is one or could never be an agreement...as per the memo..
 
Well I had no clue about LLA or any talks of a union till Monday morning when the TM had a small meeting and let's us know what had happen. Now everybody is talking about it and that's the only reason I found this forum and seen the YouTube videos in LLA. I know there wouldn't be a union vote in my barn because all the older guys won't rock the boat but I'm a middle of the pack guy and what I've learned in my short time with Conway you need friends in high places to get you on easy street. And if you question and moves being made you're given the "worry about yourself" line.

if $50 dollars a month is 80% of your check than you need a union

Two years in and you are "middle of the pack"? If this is referring to where you are on the board (half the drivers below you , half ahead of you) , then you're doing fine after TWO YEARS.

I'm guessing you're talking about your views on union/nonunion. Since this is an isolated case (so far) and LLA is very unique , anybody that tells you what to do and what to expect has a good chance of being WRONG. At this point , there are the larger issues-long term fight , and what's best for you and your loved ones.

You have to read and find FACTS. Use these FACTS to decide.

In my OPINION , things have gotten worse in the last few years even though I make more money.

In my OPINION , to treat and pay the employees better won't hurt Con-way's ability to compete.

In my OPINION , managements decisions are pushing drivers and non-management towards unionization.

Watch the company will give out a good raise next year (won't happen) and they won't get it because they are union and didnt negotiate a contract
 
I'm neither pro nor am I non at this point, but if everyone thinks a contract will be some utopia I believe you are very wrong. At my barn, people seem to have their sights set on a "UPSF like contract". That's not going to happen. These people need to look back to Overnite - UPS kept the door open for the union after they were purchased. Collective bargaining is give and take. What is LLA or any SoCal terminal gonna give? Our management has earned this but they will play hard ball. They will stall everything while technically following labor laws.

What I've found from fact digging is that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. As bad as the video from LLA was, I've found the same lack of facts and venom from the union side as I research. It's funny to me how the two sides are so diametrically opposed yet both full of the same amount of gibberish crap at the same time.

All I would say is do independent research and vote wisely when it comes to you.
 
Well talking with a hand full of guys at my barn they seem to be pro union. I know a lot of the old timers are not going to go union. At least 15 guys in my barn are saying they'd vote yes to a union. I'm wondering how to get the ball rolling on how to get a vote.
