I have one question if and only if the union is voted in and the company agrees to a contract how long would you have to work under the contract to be fully vested in the pension plan? Most people are saying as soon as a contract is sign and ratified they are vested. If I remember someone saying it used to be 10 yrs and if you had any other time it was time earned plus 5 yrs to fall under that pension. Most people are saying once signed if they have say 15 yrs they would have 15 yrs in plan. By which is wrong only if the company pays set amount per yr of service as define by plan which would never happen. Just want to some clarification on this. Thanks

To be vested in most Teamster pensions is 5 years. It used to be 10 years but that changed some time ago.

Work on voting yes ,First for representation. No guarantees on our plan it's all negotiable. Our plan is 5 years vested.Just don't think you will get a master freight contract. It took 50 years to get what we have now.Good luck and be patient.

Now if my memory serves well today when the union first tried to organize Overnite and then a few years later made that sweetheart deal with UPS I believe they give you some type of credit with their years at Overnight..I would assume that they would have the same cards on the table.. .. Best thing to do is to call down to the local involved and plain out ask them..

you mean that sweetheart deal where they got overtime after 8/40 instead of 48, and raises to put them on par with other freight companies? i keep hearing about how great the overnite pension was, gee, i wonder why?

fedex freight workers would have to negotiate the vesting of their plan with the company.

Presumably the vesting would remain the same, especially if you're vested now. Grandfather clause, would insure that.

I think I know where crazy is coming from on calling it a "sweetheart deal". I don't think he was attacking the actual contents of the UPSF contract because it was in retrospect a good first contract for both the company and the employees. I think he was referring to it as a "sweetheart deal" because it was negotiated contrary to the NMFA that we had been working under for over 50 years. I'll admit many times I have referred to the UPSF/Overnite contract as a "sweetheart deal" that lead to the death of the NMFA. But I have also posted that we in the NMFA were dinosaurs and that in order for our companies to survive we would have to modernize our work rules

The UPSF contract was a hand crafted negotiation that opened up a new era in the Teamsters LTL freight industry. It signaled the end of the outdated NMFA and opened the door for the workers at FedEx, Conway and hopefully other companies to negotiate similar modern realistic union contracts that will allow both the companies and the workers to prosper.

We would start from the contract date. FedEx would not go back and pay into our pension. If you guys believe that line you are insane. IMHO

I have to agree with SwampRatt that all vesting would be grandfathered into the contract. No one would accept a contract where they would lose out on the pension issue

Do your homework on the pension. My teamster pension, our pension, jn ny, is severely under funded.

If, as you say, your Teamster's pension fund is severely underfunded as some are then it is already in a federally mandated rehabilitation plan. And for the umphteenth time what has a Teamsters pension fund got to do with FedEx? Just like with the UPSF/Overnite negotiations it's a non issue.

Do you really think the FedEx fund is in danger of defaulting on it's obligations? Is the FedEx Single Employer Pension Fund in the critical or red zone? I think not.

More bs we are looking at a pension like UPSF NOT CENTRAL STATES. lmao The bs will never end.

Who told you we would get a pension like UPSF junior? I bet they said they would go back and all of our past years of service would count toward that new UPSF like pension. That would bankrupt FedEx. If you want that UPSF pension why not go apply for a job? IMHO

This has already been discussed in a prior thread. Of course no one thinks that we would be credited for all time that we have been with FedEx towards the pension. We have already spoke with a USPF driver in a different thread asking how this was handled in their contract since we were all aware that would never happen and we wouldn't expect it. He replied that it was a sort of pro-rated deal they got with theirs.

that would be indicative of a contract where all fed ex barns are union. you would be in a multi employer pension plan. most are under funded.
