Why not just save yourself the trouble and find a place that's already union? It sounds like people have been trying for a while now to unionize fed ex but no one seems to want to be union. why not apply to UPS? they're union and probably like make double than a fed ex driver and dont have to drive as fast on the roadways. your welcome.

Most here don't have a union fetish... But when dealing with a corporate giant, it's impossible to get problems addressed, without representation. There are undeniable "trends" that show no signs of leveling off. Would you like me to show you some of the trends we're talking about? Just ask, and I'd be happy to assist, Mr. "T.M."

are you really unaware that unions are the reason you enjoy a living wage today ? YRC is the poster child that all you non - union guys use as a frame of reference when talking about the union. as if YRC is the union... its not. it is the largest unionized ltl carrier in the country , but it was a mismanaged company that went heavily into debt just before we went into the recession. the fact that they are still in business is amazing and indicates tremendous tenacity on the part of the union members that work the docks and the streets everyday. the union did not take the 15% concessions and pension reductions - YRC did. get it straight boys - if the union carriers go away over the years, your pay will go down drastically as your company will have nothing to fear any longer.and yes, the union does want your dues money because it is used to organize and further the mission of the union - which if successful strengthens all workers.

awsome post!!!

It's called seniority. I don't want to start over and go to the bottom of another board. It's bad enough where I'm at on our board with 15 years. It's not about the rate of pay. It's about the benefits.Better less expensive health insurance. The ability to keep some sort of company health insurance post retirement and maybe even a better pension plan. A drivers rule book that I can hold in my hand and carry with me would be nice. (something we were given at the last company I worked for). There are a lot of drivers having to do these 5, 10, 30 whatever mile runs all day and getting mileage pay and drop/hooks rather than a drop and hook. I feel fortunate not to be one of them, but I think that it should be addressed along with a few more of our shuttle rules. This corporation is not going to change anything that will cost it a dime, just out of the kindness of its board. Anyway so how about we vote to try to fix a few things for everyone here and if you don't like what you see then you can quit and go to a non union company. There are plenty of them to choose from.
thats probably why none of the new drivers want to sign on. that seniority thing is a tough sell for the rest of the people you feel are below you.

Is that why the over hiring is taking place? Hmmm... None of the new drivers want to sign on? Keep thinking that.

In truth, everyone understands seniority, and expects it to mean "something" over time. The only people (in general) who don't care about it are those who don't expect to stick around long enough for it to be a benefit.

The score card is very much alive my fried. They use it as a guideline. Did you see anything in writing that it is gone??? Did you sign a post saying so??? I think not!!! GET REAL !!!

ut lets just say that a lot of newer drivres are getting nice runs which they'd have to give up to the senior drivers. in the long run, they'd benifit but in the short term, they'd basically be taking a pay cut. most people think short term. this is why no one is signing the union card.

But, you knew the rules when you hired on.. It may look unfair to new guys, but at one time you were new... When I hired on at Red Ball 30 years ago, the youngest guy there had 20 years of service.. How do you think I felt coming into a situation like that.. But, I stayed, I took my medicine and I stayed with Red Ball until the day they shut the gates... Someone being ahead of me in seniority has never bothered me.. It seems like people nowadays want to go from the outhouse to the penthouse right away.. It ain't gonna happen in the transportation industry.. I suggest that these folks who have a problem with it, go back to college and head to Wall Street, and have a stroke in two years..... You can't think short term in this business or any other business for that matter.. That tells me they want more, for less effort.. The union had nothing to do with FedEx, Estes, Conway or any other freight line, with seniority being instituted into their policies and procedures manual.. Even if they don't vote the union in, they still have to abide by seniority... I don't know what the reason is, we can sit here and speculate all winter on what it may or may not be, but the fact remains, seniority will be there, with or without a union..

If I were a young guy, you could beat me in a footrace to vote it in...

finally at my barn we had our real anti-union meeting. they were trying to scare us with the old teamsters way of doing things, how the central states southeast and southwest area pension fund was failing, and threating new hires if we vote yes they will not get their 90 day raise. also they told us the score card is completely gone and will never come back. which is all totally lies. caught them in one just this morning when they were asked about the seatbelt on the yard rule. they said oh no the first time will only be a coaching but the second 1 will be termination. COME ON MAN they told us a few months ago that it was totally gone and now saying you still will get fired be for real. also I know for a fact can't say how but the scorecard isn't gone because it will affect what they have plan in the future so rest assure they still have a game plan up their sleeves. they are telling us that the teamsters are only out their for our money to pay their salaries they don't care about us. they told us that the union pays their leaders country wide [ PER FEDEX ] roughly 3 1/2 million in salaries per a year. fedex has upper management that make that in just bonus. REMEMBER THE TEAMSTERS DIDN'T COME TO US WE WENT TO THEM. UPSF have their on pension plan and that's what we will bargain on, they have better ins., better pay, and we can have the same. the young guys out their are being pushed to vote no and don't know how corporate America really is. The only way you can secure your future and have a say so in it is to vote yes. us older guys always thought that our future was secure, but now that we are corporate America and no longer American freightways, Viking, or Watkins we know and have and are living through it everyday that our future isn't secured anymore. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ASK THE OLDER GUYS THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND A LONG TIME AND OR GO TO A MEETING WITH THE TEAMSTERS AND ASK QUESTIONS. DON'T BELIEVE OR BE SCARED TO DO IT BECAUSE FEDEX THREATENS YOU. MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS. You will hear both sides not just one side. at my barn we have people totally for it and totally against it, I can tell you this only because I know it's true that the majority of the anti-union folks are afraid of losing their gravy or are new hires that have been threaten 1 way or another. I WILL TELL YOU LIKE WE WERE TOLD THIS MORNING IN OUR MEETING GO TO A UNION MEETING OR CALL THE LOCAL PRESIDENT AND ASK QUESTIONS, THEN MAKE UP YOU MIND.
unions suck they don't do anything for the person that works hard everyday
