Holland | A Devastating Blow To Retirees (Ed Show/MSNBC)

Another example of the division in America. We are going to end up with the blue collar peasants who can barely afford to eat, and then the Wall Street, Washington elites, living large. We're going to end up with no middle class at all. The retirees just got screwed by our Govt., and for those of you who don't care because you aren't retired........go ahead, hold on to that thought, because someday you'll be the one getting screwed. Either you will get screwed also or you can enjoy working until you're 90 years old.
This entire pension issue is a crime.......committed against the working middle class folks, and the crime was committed by those who we voted into office.

Good post Northern Flash! A new guy starting out at 20 years old in this industry, will only have to work 60 years to get a pension that can't be cut back by the fund trustees!
What a joke!

:concern:

Why would any 20 something even consider this as a career choice. There's no retirement other than what you save yourself and they don'y pay us enough to really live comfortable and be able to save enough for a comfortable retirement!

this isn't the fault of the gov't. this is the fault of **** poor management of the top heavy fund. since the recession ended, all stocks and 401k's are up in value. why not our pensions? pure mismanagement so our local executives can keep their high end lifestyles.

When I first started at Holland there was three things that brought me there. (and I voluntarily left a better job than Holland)
1)Pay
2)Insurance
3)Pension

Luckily for me, I never trusted the pension fund enough to think that it would always be there for me. Something in the back of my mind told me to not put all of my retirement plans into the pension as though it was secure, so I made other investments. I had always made enough extra money while at Holland because I controlled my outbound spending, and put that extra money into other investments. Unfortunately, my lack of trust in our pension has come true now, and it looks to be official that my pension is toast. Will it hurt? Hell yes. That would have allowed for real comfortable living once I'm old enough, but clearly that's not going to happen now. Am I pissed? Yep. But am I surprised? Nope.
I'll get by because I was skeptical enough to not put all of my eggs in one basket (our pension), and still have lots of time to recover, but I'm deeply concerned for those who actually trusted the fund and have already retired based on the pension income that they were promised when they discontinued their employment. Cutting a person's pension AFTER their retirement is nothing short of criminal.......and at the highest level. I'd like to hang everyone involved with this criminal action.

There are no more pensions anywhere... save and save and save... and put the money in your safety deposit box - The Govt will take it if they think you are too rich.

Much like you I have made other preparations, and I left solely for the availability of retiree health insurance. I realize now it was a flawed decision, the pension money I will loose due to the YRC penalty would have payed for buying health ins. on the market until Medicare kicked in, that and what I have lost in income from my prior job that is.

The whole Central States pension issue has been nothing gross mismanagement of the funds, everybody responsible for the debacle needs to be prosecuted.

For some reason, when the politicians and big wigs at the corporate level are making financial cuts to the peasants below them, they themselves never seem to get included in the cuts. That's why I often call them rat bastards. If the shoe fits they need to wear it.

I'm sure they have a lot of shoes that fit!!

Yes they do....PLUS, they have the IBT Affiliates Pension Plan.....PLUS, if in your in the Southern Region, they have the Southern Region Pension Plan....so they have at least 3.....KK
My father retired as an agent. He collects ONE pension from Central States just like the membership and nothing else.
