I believe that the reason for the anti-union push, is because they don't want to negotiate. It all comes down to how this company perceives you and me the driver. They don't trust us, we are all trying to milk the clock and goof off. Why you ask....Just ask them what their bonuses are based on....NUMBERS. Period. We work here for a reason....several to be exact. But the biggest is for the all important paycheck....That thing we get to make our way through life AFTER the government and the company get done taking what they want. If sweeping out trailers and loading freight correctly was connected to a number the jack-wagons depended on for their bonus, their would be spotless trailers and perfect routes....Every day. But, our trailers look like a wood chipper was used before loading and if your lucky...Your first stop might be on the tail. Yard times, SPH, returns, appointment deliveries made, OT percentage, Cut times, trailer close times, bills per hour, etc.....That's what drives this insanity. They don't trust us in the city, because according to their "freight engineers" ie....Logistics numbers crunchers...They say that this/that is the goal....and with a cattle prod...The dispatchers/OM/SCM push and push and push....Well, it's my safety and my CDL. You don't own me or the license I busted my butt to keep clean. I used to think that this was the be all to end all. But if this is the pinnacle of the LTL trucking industry....I can take my happy tail somewhere else if I chose. But, I don't want to. I like my job, and what I do. I came here 12+ years ago, because this was the best...I wanted to work for FedEx. Look what it's turned into. Management don't trust employees, employees don't trust management. And how did that happen....It's called turning this company into a FedEx model company. You see, they need to purge the majority of the AF, Viking and Watkins drivers....And there is a timeline for this....Everyone remembers the way things were under those respective companies....all were profitable, treated their drivers good...That's they only reason why Fred bought them...But, this whole mindset of employees being first just had to go. Look how fast things went into overdrive when Mr. Garrison tragically drowned. If he were alive today, and still on the board....Would he consent to this? I think not. He took care of the people who took care of him. I challenge anyone to dispute anything I have said....I have experienced everything I have said....May not happen in your barn...But it sure as hell happens in mine....

Great post. I feel the exact sameway. I always said till they weed us out, I being a Watkins employee we come from companies that knew LTL . until the new comers take over there will be a tension amongst us. Most of the anti union comes from employees that solely worked for FedEx and was no part of the merge.

All true MoFo,

The only original business principal that dominates in practice is # 5, and it pertains to employees through maximum return on minimum investment. Your point on numbers driving the train, is dead on accurate. How can they possibly make improvements (in the current culture), to areas with no number associated with it?

For those who've forgotten, or were never aware these are the founding principals for AF. Watkins and Viking had very similar philosophies.

1. Take care of our people
2. Take care of our customers.
3. Honor our commitments.
4. Work hard, smart, and safely—and
work together.
5. Make the most of resources.
6. Have fun.

What? 3 freaking replies to this rant? Nothing from redracer? Really? No company-man rebuttal? 146 people viewed it. Nobody had anything to say? Do you agree/disagree? Why are you for or against the union? Take a stand/side.

I've said it before,,, but since this is such a good "to the point" post,,, I'll say it again... I'm not one to change companies like some do undies... I hired on here (with a previous company) ONLY because the drivers I delt with were happy... Made decent money,,, but mainly were treated like they were a real part of the company. The company listened to them,,, and changed things when they could... I know a lot of you have done this,,, but I have gone WAY out of my way to make customers happy... BECAUSE I LIKED the company I was working for.... Believe it or not fedex,,, customer service will bring you more buisness....And you get that by treating your EMPLOYEES like human beings,,, not some thing you need to get rid of... Now days I don't like going to the store on the way home in my uniform.... There is No Respect... Ummm, you people might want to look that up,,, Respect..... You EARN it,,, you don't buy it......

I'm a union man.I agree that in some instances.Union representation is not warranted.Examples are as follows. If you're a corpiration.First and foremost.Do NOT forsake your labor over greed. As the late Sam Walton used to preach.Do not cut your wages on your labor.Be somewhat generous to your labor in regards to wages. These people that drive the trucks or move the freight on the docks.Spend a tremendous amount of time away from their families to move your freight and service your customers. You really think that they want to be working for you. When the wages you allocate barely keep up with inflation? I don't think so.
It used to be if a corporation found excellent and loyal employees. Those employees would be rewarded with health benefits above most average benefits at little to no cost to employees and their families.Have standardized work rules. That all employees can agree on.None of this coaching time thingy. That only adds insult to injury. My goodness you didn't hire kindergartners. If the corporate pigs could only grasp the treatment of employees kindness theory.Alot more things could get accomplished.Employee retention would be improved two fold.If only the corporate pigs could and should cooperate.Oh no its the almighty bottom line and greed. If you want to keep unions out. Then follow those simple guidelines aforementioned.

Read the other threads. You're trying to start a thread that has been discussed ad nauseum, 27 different ways. Then, when nobody want to play, you complain and throw a tantrum.
I really don't think that was a tantrum, but just like yourself and every body else on here,As long as he plays by the rules he can say as he so wishes! Like someone said more wee wee shaking??? lol

Based on your apparent disdain for "the man" I don't believe you are likely to ever feel justly treated, rather perhaps some sense of redemption by sticking it to the man.

Looks like a tantrum to me.
