XPO | First Dispatched and Pre-Trips

We go by seniority, not dispatch. We never have any problems.

There in lies the problem though, why do you go by seniority when it is company policy to go by dispatch. There needs to be a problem with the whole seniority/dispatch issue so the company can correct policy. In the post right above mine a member posted the policy, and if you read the policy at the end of the page or the next page it says that the only one who can change the policy is the president of con-way.

If policy was fixed and reflected accurately then everyone would have the same guidelines to go by.

I should also say that, in my opinion, the whole idea of going by dispatch is that the senior driver will have his/her loads before those below him/her and should be dispatched before the less senior guy.

Hope this works

OK, but it still ends up being decision left to the senior driver. A least that's how I see it. Senior driver will always get first dispatch out at his sic. Therefore unless something unforseen happens it still his choice at the FAC. I'm not going to fight it out with a senior driver cause I beat him to a FAC by 10-15min. Because sometimes the senior driver will let me turn and burn, cause he wants to work the dock. I scratch there back and they scratch mine. I works just fine I guess, until someone starts crying. But we don't have a lot of Crybaby's out here.

Thanks for everyone's comments . I understand first dispatch but my only concern was this forcing drivers to overlook or do poor pre-trips due to not being able to dispatch ahead if a junior guy if he finds something wrong , therefore the junior guy being able to leave the foreign barn ahead of a senior guy . I agree and if the guy above me had issues with his equipment or load I feel like he should still hold his spot ; regardless off dispatch . I guess its just a mutual respect thing I think we all should have amongst each other . At the end of the day we all have the same goals , make some money and get home safe .

I'm not really big on following a rule to the letter. I believe more in the spirit of the rule, like some say the spirit of the law. It was written as such for those who are unreasonable, and act childish. Most of us can decide this in a gentlemanly way without anyone getting bent. We don't need to cry to supervisors, and call Ann arbor.

That being said as truckdrivers, no matter who we work for we are responsible for any equipment we decide to jump on the highway with. Safety should take priority over trying to be first out. If that means being last, then so be it. My family and yours travel these highways alongside us everyday. Ask any driver who's been involved in a fatality, your fault or not. It haunts you forever.

On the operational side, at some point you have to jump ahead, if the other driver is too far behind. Drivers at the FAC are waiting and city ops can go sideways fast, if enough freight is held up. Some freight is better than none. Reasonable people understand this, and most drivers are not going to hold that against you. Jumping ahead just to be an ass is a totally different situation, and is why it is written this way

I should have said we're small and rarely get out of order on dispatch.

We had two senior drivers that went to the same reship every night. They took turns dispatching first every night.

The senior driver probably regrets doing that..now you cant really stop doing it. You should just keep your spot. Unless there is some kind of special situation where the other guy needs to be off early for an emergency or something, just keep your spot.

That was the mid nineties. One of them is retired now.

If u have drivers with integrity should be OK right, however we know that's no the case at most. Everyone worried about who does this where's he going right. No pants at home so do it at work.

Question: What is meant by dispatch?
I think some consider that the order in which your names are written on the dispatchers sheet; which should also be the order in which you get you work assignment.
Others consider that the time you log out of your terminal at the computer station.

Technically the definition of the word dispatch is : to send off or away with promptness or speed; especially: to send off on official business
If that's the definition Conway uses then it is when you get your work assignment.

This is all on the fos and drivers with integrity. We all know the order of seniority, if your junior and an fos gives you a run before a senior driver, you should step up and say " hey, he goes before me." If your a dick, you will take it and run. All the fos's have to do is manage their dispatches properly. Spread them out. It's not rocket science.
