That’s what research conducted by National Public Radio, which recently mapped out the most common jobs in each U.S. state, has revealed. And as of last year, in a majority of states, truck driving is the most popular job category. The NPR interactive map shows how the landscape for employment has changed across the nation from 1978, when farmers, secretaries and machine operators ruled the roost, to 2014, when truck driving emerged as No. 1.

One would think with our overwhelming numbers, maybe we could assemble a quorum and improve our status in society, as well as lobby for better pay and benefits?

:hilarious: :wtflol:

Nah, what was I thinkin'?

Texting and driving has to stop, might as well put DVD players on steering wheels and let natural selection run its course, if that doesn't quit.

You should see the driving here, it's insane.
I thought Cali was bad.

It's like the perfect storm. Kids can get a license at 15, the Air Force base here with young drivers from all over the country, the oilfield guys that think everyday is an emergency on top of the enormous volume that comes with them and throw in a bunch of big truck drivers here to cash in on the quick buck all on an infastructure built to only hold a quarter of the volume it's currently experiencing and add ice/snow/fog crappy weather to the mix..it's like everything that could mess up driving is present and accounted for here.
My insurance premiums nearly tripled and I came from a state with mountain passes and oilfield...who knew it would be worse :/ it's a mad house.

First, you would have to find drivers that gave a :::shit::: about the industry. There aren't many of us left.

I was hoping that there would be more responses, G, but evidently you are on track with your observations.

I do know a few that could be motivated to step up, but maybe a 'voice' is more apropos than a 'quorum?'

As for unified voice? Ain't gonna happen. The industry is too diverse. We have drivers that
get paid by the mile
get paid by the hour
get paid by the load
get paid percentage
cant add 2+2 and get correct answer, O/O's that have no idea what their breakeven point is.
Drivers on the road to stay away from the wife and kids.
Drivers picking up any lot lizard they can find for weeks at a time.
Trying to get group unified, you would have better result's herding cats.

Thought that was Jeff's job, the cat herder thingy...

We're all here on TB and at least as diverse as you propose, if not more so!!

(See post #9) :lmao:
