XPO | Time to get rid of unsafe tires

Well mic them . If they are under12/32 have them replaced. I did. Adjust your driving to the equipment you ar running. Man up, let's have less whining and just truck. This year alone we have many drivers turn around because of weather! Sad part is their run was either 79 miles, 99 miles or 163 miles. And the senior guys that are all on 250+miles made it both ways. The new bread or ( entitlement) drivers do not want to pay their dues just the big bucks. They feel they need to hammer down and not adjust their speed because they loose money, then blame it on the equipment they are in. I could go on but why. The new breed of truckers should just get out of this industry.
Have them replaced? What are we to stop in route at the local tire dealer and have him put a decent set of tires on? I mean I told them for over a month mine were worn down to the replacement point but it didn't seem to matter.

Just finished a 100 mile peddle run up here in maine. Between 6 and 10 inches of snow, depending on where you were. Part of the run was local, the last two were out in the boonies. Unreal how lousy and useless these drives are in the snow. Almost 40 years experience in all conditions and I feel like I am driving a death trap on wheels. One of my coworkers described it as driving a coffin on wheels! Come on conway, let's admit we made a major mistake and fix it. How many guys are going to crash, burn, and die before entering do something? Safety first? I say safety third. Time and money are your only concern as far as I can see. My boss man gave us the choice this morning after working the inbound if we wanted to run or go home. We all decided to go out and get it done. Good thing we did or else we would be up the creek without a paddle come friday. Maybe next time I will say screw it, and bow out with a bad case of snow kitty flu. That's it I'm all done for now!!! Speed safely, drive fast And take lots of chances.....

Freedom of speech does not apply. Hopefully you can abide by the few rules we have here and enjoy yourself.

We filed a grievance in Akron over unsafe trailers and won! Now we don't have to pull them anymore. So I am sure you guys . . . oh wait . . . never mind.

We don't pull unsafe equipment. It gets red tagged. If they were to try and force us to pull or drive something that isn't road worthy we can call the palace or have a trooper come out. Working line haul, I have refused to drive a switch back to the barn. And I know others have as well. I understand the equipment needs to get back to the shop. To bad. It needs towed. All you gotta do is show the FOM. Hey look at this. Would you look at it ?

These tires are a curious issue. I am sure the company signed a contract for a thousand or a million or whatever of them. That's the way these bigger companies roll when dealing with each other. So we are likely stuck with them for a bit. And it isn't that they don't conform to any laws or rules. They do indeed meet all the standards needed for a street tire.

What they aren't is safe or reliable. They wear out FAST. They have a horrible design. They have zero bite. That little video is a lie. I spin the drives on wet roads. They don't grip at all. There are several better designs out there with the closed shoulder and lugs down the middle. The company must have had other motivation to pick this tire. I could see it used on a twin screw. Might make more sense. But on a single axle tractor, in the P&D environment, this is just irresponsible. These tires have made me a " fair weather " weekend warrior. So I don't know what they do for line haul. How they feel about them. But for a company that has been around as long as this one to make this kinda of decision on something that directly effects every single driver it has, shows you just how far that desk up in the palace has gotten from the driver in the street.

The units on your T/L side have been running them for 3 or more years...I have a friend that's been running team with his wife...their take on them are that they are MORE THAN WORTHLESS....imagine getting stuck on flat ground.

Now you know why this company had to have a union back in the day. Splitting off and bankrupting the union side didn't change the corporate culture one bit. They treat you just like they treated us. I totally empathize with what you have to deal with. They are simply mindless-number-crunchers and woe unto you if you get in their way.

Happy to see that after 41 years of driving that I am not the only one that feels that I am driving a death wish with these tires!

It's kind of a shame that yes the union will go a long ways in stopping unsafe practices by the company. But company drivers think they can ban together and make them stop. But that will never happen because the company knows it can scare most into not making any waves. However, if the company was union it only takes one safety violation and the union will be all over them...

Also just let something happen out there and the first thing the company will ask you is if it was unsafe why did you take it. And throw you to the proverbial wolves...
