Thoughts and prayers to the families.

"Douglas was my nephew - If you could help with his funeral expenses please go to "gofundme Douglas Griffin funeral fund" - He leaves a wife and handicapped daughter who don't have much and live with relatives - partially because of his daughters medical expenses. Any prayers or donation will be greatly appreciated. And please send prays for Michael West, his co-worker who was also injured, and for this family through this trying time"

A reminder to never take for granted how dangerous your job can be.

It's dangerous out there, no job, no load, nothing is worth your life.
Your family needs each and everyone out there..
Stay safe and get home alive.

R.I.P. fellow driver.

Not that I'm against donations and don't take this wrong but doesn't he have paid co life insurance by just being employed here

I'm sure the CSM will guide them through the process, which takes time. I believe the daughter's immediate needs are the focus here.

Like I said it wasn't meant to be negative but the donation page said funeral fund and my experience is the first thing a funeral home gets is the policy info. Its a bad thing all around and my payers are with the family.

Sad man RIP fellow driver. Thoughts and prayers to everyone' involved. Everyone be safe out there been a bad winter.

Sad to hear I had met him a few times.

Why in the world were they swapping tractors on the side of the interstate though? There is a reason tow trucks were made.

I believe it is 1.5 times your annual salary
Usually when people ask for donations, I guess they are living paycheck to paycheck, and they might need some ready cash to get them by until the FedEx life Insurance, your added extra Life insurance on top of that, your 401-K, which you can get in a week or 2, any vaction, sick pay personals etc. like when a fellow driver died at our terminal, they asked for money also. I told my wife, do not ask for a dime if I get killed on the job. She would be taken care of, and worth more if I die, then I am alive. If they were swapping tractors on the side of the highway, who made that call, safety? I have broken down a dozen times over the years, and sometimes you do not have time to pull over in a safe place, and should have called the highway patrol, to send out an incident management vehicle out to warn other drivers. Bad call on both parts.

While some of what you said is correct, an assumption that a person, with a disabled child is living paycheck to paycheck, is probably right.
Can that person afford extra life insurance ? Probably not.
If they have a 401K plan, how much could be in the account of a 29 year old. Not much.
Then you have the tax implications of taking that 401K money.
It won't be tax free and a penalty is charged for an early withdrawal.
Then factor in the widows needs and the child's long term needs.
It won't be easy for them, and a few extra bucks could help them cover basic needs now.
People complain all the time about government programs to help those in need, yet they turn around and won't help those that do need real help.
I thought helping others was a Christian thing to do. Help others that may not be able to help themselves.
I didn't know this man. I didn't work for the same company.
But I can reach in my pocket and help them. It's the least I can do.

If y'all can find out more details on where to send donations please post them on here. I work for upsf so I'll never here about it. At the end of the day we are all humans and I hate to hear of something like this.

I believe somewhere it said he was hired last year as a part time dock worker and went through the driver program. With this being said, I would guess there isn't much in his 401K and being so new it may have been lack of knowledge that put him in the roadway. Tragic regardless!!

If it is who I am thinking of he has been there for a few years. I came off the road in July of 2012 and I am pretty sure I have met him from running over there. But then again I could be thinking of someone else, either way sad to hear and wish his family the best.

we take care of our own, does not matter which company they work for. that should be our standard, and what each company does for its employees is theirs.
