Gee whiz, around here Sysco is beating us down, I have worked 60 plus hours for the last 3 weeks, they want us to get out of the yard in the morning in 20 min or less yet they keep adding work in the morning they want us to do, I keep wondering...what do they want? Us out of the yard in 20 min or less or do all their extra stuff, or both, they can't have it both ways, there just isn't enough time in the morning!

Any of you other guys dealing with this?

we get 30 minutes and its barely enough time. hook the tractor up, get a pallet jack on, and do a PROPER pre trip inspection..

Lord yes. "Get off the yard 25min after getting your paperwork". Never mind that the trailer sometimes isn't ready for another 20. Yelled at us for getting in the way in the morning and hooking our own tractors up...never mind that the guy supposed to be working in the yard is hiding out in the upstairs bathroom.
Then 1/2 the time the loaders put our pallets out of sequence and we have to go back down to the dock to put them in order.
Last Monday the first trailers weren't even ready until 9:00am, some not until 10 or later. Rest of the week 1-2 hrs behind. But they have no problem routing us showing an end time of 6:30pm on the manifest (based on leaving at 5 or 5:30). I haven't even gotten into them singling out a few drivers who "make too much" (direct from our VP's mouth) and changing some of their routes to hourly where it benefits them. Lots of retaliation going on around here that's having to be addressed.
Yelled at us Thurs for telling the customers we left late when they asked us what was up earlier in the week...hide the problems instead of addressing the issue.
Place has gone to hell recently. Honestly think they're trying to get the bulk of us to quit as they're working on our first contract.

Good night if my trailer was not ready til 9am I would not be there to get it,they would looking for a standby driver. The 20 mins that it how long they have given us ever since I have worked here. Dang it sounds like Houston needs to be called lazlo.

Good, thanks for the response guys, now that I know there are different standards for different yards I am armed!

Lazlo, 0900? WTF!!! I would have every screw I have left come loose if my stuff didn't get ready or arrive untill 0900, I couldn't imagine, my route on any day would be destroyed!!!!

The beer company I worked for before GFS was like that 9,10 11 sometimes it didn't matter to them.

Say Mike, how is it going for you over at GFS?

Well it's been a real behind kicker. Today I got my butt whipped down town. Down town is a big mess right now and I don't know any of the stops to good and I've been getting my behind handed to me. I'm getting, it, but it's been an adjustment and a big learning curve. The beer trucks were easier to drive and I didn't have to go underneath buildings and back into goofy docks. Today was a hard one I was stressed. I can't stand swing driving I hate going to these places blind and yeah it's given me some minor anxiety attacks.

However, I don't think that a route of my own is all that far away. We've got guys slated for retirement and guys quitting left and right our office is in shambles.

I said to one of the bosses today "Geeze it's like I've never done this before and that I'm just out of driving school again." Seriously it's been that bad at times. I don't know I get frustrated with my self. Today I was down town it was awful and actually management called me on the phone and said "How's everything going besides being extremely frustrated?"

Anyhow I'll make it through to the other side and hopefully once on the other side it will get easier, they tell me once I have my own route I'll figure it out and it will be okay.

There are some other new guys too and the boss said to me today "I would have come help you, but another guy was clobbered and I had to bail him out or else he wouldn't have been back till 6 at night."

So you know it is what it is I got to work at quarter to 4am this morning and left at 5:30-5:40pm. Hopefully tomorrow goes quicker it is an easier route I know that much. The routes I've been covering haven't been the greatest, that is for sure. Work wise I don't mind it so much some stuff is heavier then beer and some stuff is lighter so that's all cool and all. Yeah I'm certainly no grocery throwing pro that's for sure, but I'll keep holding on see what comes up, though eventually once I get a route which should be right around the corner I think things will slowly start to get easier from that point forward and then it should be a good job. However right now it's given me a lot of anxiety attacks and some very long days at the office.

Any indication why guys are quitting left and right? That might worry me a little, I know in my area the GFS guys always seemed to be the happiest of the food device drivers.

Well mike j do not let it get to you. Take it one stop at a time don't worry about the next one till you finish the one you are working. Your boss sounds good at Sysco your boss will not answer his phone and sure as heck not come help you.

Mike I think it was Tedward that said in a different thread "It stinks, but at least it can only stink for 60hrs a week (or 70 in 8 if they use that)" Something along those lines and he's right.
The fact that your boss called YOU to check and see how you were doing sounds like a good sign to me.

I know it. 1/2 the selectors called in sick the night before. Of course, the half who worked until 10:30 (when the last ones finished up) didn't feel up to coming in that night so THEY called in the next night and it pretty much snowballed like that all week long. Seriously thought about quitting right then and there, called my wife and was running over the numbers (vacation would pay out, how long would savings last in worst case scenario.). I was one of the luckier ones, thankfully my route was fairly light and all in a tight area, decided it'd be better to stay and just call in the next day if I needed to. A couple good friends of mine were still at their first stops at noon. Course half the stops I went to no one had called to give them the heads up that I was behind.
Was funny on Thursday in our weekly meeting they asked us to have the customers call sales and not to tell them about all that was going on. Told us not to give a reason, not to tell them we left late, just "call your salesperson". Ummmm, fix the issues in your warehouse maybe instead of lying or pretending it doesn't exist. Telling them honestly why I was there at noon with 150cs instead of 8 got me into a couple places that otherwise won't take it at lunch.

They had a couple guys quit most of our guys are injured. It's not bad there good people we have more injuries and people on light duty then anything else and then transit guys getting ready to retire. They seem to be looking out pretty good though. It's really not that bad. Just different things to get used to is all.

They had 2 guys quit I don't know why. Some guys slated for retirement more injuries and guys on light and restricted duty then anything else really.

The way we do it at GFS is millage, piece count and flat rate. I did 800+ cases today and was a busy little beaver all by my self running around West Geauga and eastern Cuyahoga County.
