FedEx Freight | 68MPH

I've heard threw the grape vine the trucks are getting bumped up to 68MPH. Has anyone else heard this?

Lots of good news coming out for our road drivers, and that is good. Wonder if there will be any improvements for our city drivers, down the road, over the horizon, in the future? Rhetorical question, I know.

Not gonna happen any time soon. Our RVP was asked that. He said. " The only way it will happen is if manufactures can adjust engines to get same fuel economy at higher rate of speed. Example. If trucks are averaging 6.8 miles a gallon, and they turn them up and they get 6.7 mph. Over a year it would cost the company a extra 12 million in fuel cost.

He also said they may not have a choice 5 plus years from now if the countries infrastructure isn't vastly improved! Reason being your major cities congestion is gonna to be so bad that they will need to try and find ways for drivers to make the time up they lost in city,

The other option is to change service product in certain areas due to congestion if turning trucks up is to costly..

Hope that answers questions.

Be safe ladies and gents

Great! So then the interstates can be just like a NASCAR track... It will take 20 minutes for one truck to pass another, if they can at all.
Heck Swamp it takes them that long now if not longer lol some guys just won't back out and hang out there all day long just to make a point. Me I'm happy we only run 62 and that's it nothing more, and I dn't have to run my fuzzbuster anymore "nuff said just having a little fun

Let's not also forget that some in Congress are trying to pass a bill regulating ALL trucks to a maximum speed of 65mph....in the name of safety.
It's already like that in most Canadian provinces, Ontario included. The four wheelers it's supposed to protect absolutely hate getting stuck behind two rigs doing the tire wear snail race. Every time I've been asked about it, I tell them to go talk to their local member of Parliament and tell them they think trucks should be allowed to go faster. Hell, all I want is 70mph.

I'd be happy with 70 as well...seeing as how that's the majority of the speed limit for most of the places we go.
I had a truck that ran 70 on the pedal once at FedEx Freight...a brand new Volvo...it was great...until the first PM.

Never going to happen as they will loose millions in extra fuel costs. Manufacturers will never make a truck that gets better fuel milage up around 70 vs 65....simple physics and it is impossible as aerodynamics is the most influential factor on fuel economy. The faster you go the worse the aerodynamics. I actually would propose they turn the trucks down a few miles an hour. I don't believe it would greatly effect them logistically and they would save millions. Then to appease all the drivers fedex could share the savings by giving drivers fuel savings bonuses say around xmas time. There are other companies that use such fuel savings/bonus system very effectively. Flame on!!

Not going to happen. That's why it's called as you say thew the grape vine. You like grapes and they are good, but turning up Fedex trucks will not happen.

state of ohio is kickin 75 mph speed limit around....at the speed our trucks go. We'll be drivin with our 4 ways on all day...that oughta be a hoot
This coming from a state that had 55mph speed limits loooong after everyone one else had raised theirs to 65...WOW!!!
