FedEx Freight | CORPORATE communication FEEDBACK

How about giving city drivers an allowance for cell phones. I have made up to 12 + calls in one day for fed ex on my personal cell phone.

Hey we agree on something, I used my cell daily for their business and they never hesitated to call me when I didn't answer the Intermec and they knew good and well I was driving. I always thought they should give a cell allowance, some drivers claimed Intermec had cell phone capability they just wouldn't turn it on. I do know they ran off a cell network when I was there we changed from AT&T to Verizon and it said it right at the top of the screen.

You can claim the amount paid for business calls made from your personal cell phone on your taxes as a deduction and get that money back....provided you keep your statements as a receipt.

Thanks Red. You're right and I do understand the need for some differences due to differences in the operation AND a different chain of command. It still seems to me those differences in policy and processes should only exist when there is valid reason for it. Often there is NO GOOD REASON, and certainly no explanation for those differences.

The fact that City drivers often do road runs and road drivers (less) often do city work, shows that there is much overlap. We have drivers. When possible and practical, the rules and processes for Drivers should be consistent.
If I may interject something .... even though the Road is pretty much controlled by Central, the home Center can have a huge impact on that. In my Center, if Central is not being compliant with our guys, our Center Manager gets on the phone to Central, our MD or HR. My Manager intercedes for ALL of us. Central Dispatch is not the last word. And, you are right......the Hot Line is very good. Works every time. NO ONE wants to get a call from their Superior due to a call from the Hot Line.

Red, 1st you'll have to be able to itemize deductions. Even then, you can only deduct business expenses that exceed 2% of your adjusted gross.

Hope that helps. :rulz:

Yes and is it really the governments responsibility to cover fed ex's expenses or in this case a portion of them? Like i said we need an allowance it's not right we have to use our personel cell phones for work related call's. Give us an allowance or get us work cell phones.

You run the city, why are you using your personal cell phone anyways?? Use the customer's phones, use the phone at the convenience store when you stop to grab a snack, etc..., you have other options.
Using your personal cell phone for company business....wouldn't that put you in the same category as those who "cut corners" in the name of efficiency??

I see you still live in a dream world where every where has cell phone service. So now it's pawn our call's off on customers instead of the government. lol Cut corners where do you come up with this crap? You wouldn't make it 2 days running the city up here go back to sleep driver.

No, not everywhere has cell service, what do you do then....use someone else's phone? Perhaps a land line?
I didn't come up with that "crap", Swamp did.
Almost anybody can run the city, it's not that hard.

This is not the debate thread I don't know why you find the need to ruin every thread with your gibberish. No we have places here where you don't have cell phone service and no public place to stop. You do with out or you make calls where you know you have service. The only place you have ever run city is in CLT so you have no idea what other places are like. Bottom line this issue I brought forward is our responsibility not someone else's.

Just curious, what did you think we did back in the day before cell phones....send smoke signals??
CLT is no different than CRW, there's plenty of places where you can't get a cell signal...but every customer has a land line!!

Yeah ok red I bet if every city driver just didn't bring their cell phone to work one day it would disrupt our whole program. Lmao clt is no different than crw you make some really ignorant statements. It's not our customers responsibility to provide us with a phone to use. This issue is about taking responsibility for our own stuff not trying to pawn it off on who ever is closest!!!

Here sir here is your smashed ruined freight. No big deal right mind if I use your phone im kind of hungry got anything to eat also and please get up so I can sit at your desk while I make my long distance phone call on your dime btw who made this food it sucks mmmmkkkkkkkkkyyyyy

Yep, used to use the customer's phone everyday to call in to get my next set of pickups.
Long distance...you do know your center has an 800 number?
Never asked for food but back in the day our salesmen used to get pizza, doughnuts, etc..., for our various customers as a token of appreciation and they'd usually treat the drivers to lunch for taking care of their accts....aw, the good ole days!!

I think this whole cell phone thing is over your head a little. We have to call our residential customers all the time to let them know we are on the way or set up a meet point. What about when your center calls you as stated before. Your city days are from a different era you have no clue from your statements on what im talking about. There are plenty of times when your not at a customers when you need to call dispach or make a work related call.

No, you just don't realize how easy cell phones/technology has made your job....and you still want to bitch about it.
I always called my residentials BEFORE I left the center to insure someone would be there for delivery, otherwise I'd take it off the truck to save myself a return and them the re-delivery fee!! If the center needed me, they'd get me when I called in at my next stop...simple. If we needed dispatch and wasn't near a phone, we either waited, we hiked on foot to a pay phone, or we relied on the assistance from passing motorist!!
You have no clue as to how easy you have it...yet you still want to complain.
