Between the weak freight market, and the Baltimore Marine terminal since the Key bridge debacle has slowed inbound and the reduced pickups is causing more Layoffs, the lower guys on the call board haven't worked weeks and now they're eliminating routes that are mostly occupied by senior drivers. Managers are going in panic mode for sure.

This shows how dependent our supply chain is on every port or highway in this country being functional.

I’m pretty conservative in my political views but I don’t understand how some pundits on the right say “we can’t manufacture here, labor costs are too high” when we did it for decades and decades. People didn’t make much but goods didn’t cost that much… interest rates on your house were a killer, but even with an almost entirely unionized trucking industry and a much higher unionized workforce goods were produced and moved to market and people did ok.

Basically the value of are dollar kept dropping after the dollar came off the gold standard in the early 70’s. Those over sea countries pay there people Pennie’s to make the products they ship back here.

Basically slave labor or child labor which which we shouldn't be encouraging. We should be self sufficient, but we aint and we will pay for that some day. Our govt and big industries who basically have a monopoly on stuff has sold us out.

When Bill Clinton gave China Most Favored Nations status and ended GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs & Trade)
That gave China and other nations the green light to dump in America as they pleased. In addition he passed and signed NAFTA.
Gave America a sugar high for a few years, then millions of manufacturing job losses.
In retaliation America's unions have thrown billions of $$$ to the same democrat's who did this.
Union can only blame unions....

I used to think tariffs were a good thing, but they’re not. The importing company doesn’t pay it, we pay it. That being said, deregulation is what killed LTL trucking. Which was also done by a democrat. Don’t really understand why most unions have continued to support Democrats. As it stands now the Republican Party is now the party of the working class. It’s showing in the polling in this year’s presidential election. Maybe unions will come around like black and Hispanic Americans seem to be doing. I don’t like Donald Trump at all, but given the choice I’d take him over the idiot currently occupying the White House.

Two presidential candidates opposed NAFTA, Pat Buchanan & Ross Perot. Both warned about this country losing manufacturing jobs. Perot referred to NAFTA as "That great sucking sound".

That was probably one of the best presidential debates ever. Ross Perot hit the nail on the head. Now the real question, with Bill Clinton on stage and the mention of giant sucking sound going south was he talking about Mexico or Monica?:17::17::17::17::17::17:
