Old Dominion sees jump in 1Q profit

Old Dominion Freight Line reported a first-quarter profit of $13 million on sales of $291.6 million, a gain of 39.4 percent from the same period last year.
Earnings per diluted share rose 40 percent to 35 cents, up from 25 cents a year earlier.
In a statement, the company attributed its growth to expanding its service network; it has added 16 service centers and seen a 20 percent growth in the number of tons shipped.
Old Dominion Freight Line (NASDAQ: ODFL - News) is based in Thomasville.
