4 hour guaranteed local cartage classification?

1) If this passes, there will not be a 4 hour person working past 6 hours. That would be defeating the purpose of this change. Wishful thinking though.

2) If the 4 hour person only works 20 hours per week, they would have minimal pension or bennies. If it's based on how many hours you work, you will be shorted one way or another. Plus, working part of the week will eliminate your unemployment check. And have fun waiting by the phone to work only on Fridays and Mondays.

If you don't think that the company would take full advantage of this situation, why did they put it in there?

According to the information that we reviewed at our local on Saturday, the 4 - hour man would come from the laid off list of regular employees. They would also have their pension (when it resumes) and H & W benefits paid, but on an hourly basis. This is what most Teamster construction jobs have in place now. What that means is that the benefits paid in would be calculated on an hourly basis that would be figured at the end of each weeks work for the amount of hours worked.

Also, it states that if the 4 - hour man works over the 6th hour then that man would be guaranteed 8 hours.

Yea and they will make sure they don't cross that line........... How many men get 2 days now and not a 3rd because his benefits
will be fully paid......... Meanwhile they are working guys on 6th and seven punches to avoid paying H&W........ Don't think the company won't abuse this as well, And of course the union will let them..............

Do you think that it is fair for a part time man to take overtime away from a 30 year man or is it fair that a man with14 years vacation will get his 4 th week and a 15 yr man will lose his 4 th week, there is to much gray area and not enough answers.
It's not a part-timer, Some of the laid-off men here in Charlotte have 15 or more years in........ The company just wants to make full-time laid-off employees part-time.......... NO

If this crap passes......the Union will have a perfectly good excuse for letting it continue. The Union will just say...."you guys voted for it, that means it ok."

Bennies go to Western States "lowest in effect". You must accrue 100 hours in a month to get H n W. Just think, by the time you earn it, (if you do) the month will be over and you won't have used it.

I'm pretty sure many of you in this thread complaining about things that you don't know will happen or not are also some of the very folks here who were saying we were all go to be screwed by the 4 hr casual. And that we would all be utilitiy drivers with 4 hr casuals running the dock. At 326 to my knowledge they have yet to use a 4 hour casual to this day. The 4 hr our part-time deal here isn't going to be applied everywhere and if you don't understand that then you really should start paying attention to how freight flows in and out of terminals. And the most important thing here is that it says you have the option to pass and that you cannot be forced, In which case the company would call in as your barn rules indicate. It's not an isue unless you make it one by accepting the part-time job. And honestly why does it even matter if everyone is voting NO?

I think the problem would be, if you and most of the other laid-off guys on your board pass on the work call (as I can see happening for various reasons), then the 4 hour shift will probably be offered to a casual. The company will try to keep this situation rolling as long as possible and not recall those laid off.

I think the real gray area is the part in the full text that says, "At each terminal, the number of workers in this four hour guaranteed local cartage classification shall be limited to 10% of the active city cartage seniority roster with a minimum of two (2) positions."

At many terminals like 875, the bottom 10% are already on call but with an 8 hour guarantee. Wouldn't this now make a class of on call, 4 hour guaranteed percenters in these barns?

I'm trying to understand this 4 hr thing. One have to be laid off already to be a 4 hr casual. So therefore, can't one just take the full lay off and not be bothered with the part time, every now and then, do us a favor and help us out today crap? That's how some of us did back at 218, when it was CVE. If enough people do this, they will have to either recall some people or good luck trying to hire 4 hr casuals off the street and hope they know how to load right without tearing up freight and equipment! But, we wouldn't have to worry about this if enough of us vote NO!

That will serve them right, smashed up freight and misloads.

ya a real classy guy you're not

joes not management but you'd think so. joe, its easy to talk like this because you're getting yours and you want a yes vote thinking if they start paying into the pension that you'll continue to get "yours". Am I right? They'll never get 6 hours because while... you have lobster and wine?

are you right? No. You're never right..the letter I got from NF Fund.. stated
"the amount you receive cannot be altered by anyone"
I paid in 33 yrs. I'm good..living the dream..having lobster and wine on the 32nd floor of the casino in the VIP lounge. The 4 hr man could get 12 hours if the work was there..if not he goes home with what he can eek out
