Thanks for posting Jeff! It is about time ABF finally is able to do RPM service from Vegas to So. Cal. Every other LTL carrier here was killing us in overnight freight to Cali. We can turn and burn within the legal hours allowed. I Know for a fact we lost accounts cause of our 2-5 day service to cali. Now our sales team can try to get those accounts back!

I like to know more about the Utility Employee (UE).UE is that a seperate board from the PUD board. If a road driver transfers to UE,does the company seniority hold to dovetail into the PUD board at next bid opportunity. Can a PUD employee bid to UE and then back to PUD at next bid. Thanks for any information.

Double Barrell
The UE is taken from the city board and is just another start time bid that ABF has in the city .....In the east it is run Monday through Thursday and is a 10 hr bid and I would assume it will be the same in the west ....The UE runs from his home terminal to a hvxp where other terminals come to and they transfer their shipments to each other and make outbound loads at the hvxp and linehaul drivers pick up the outbound loads made at the hvxp and take them to a relay point or to their destination ...when the UE is finished at the hvxp he goes back to his home terminal hopefully by 0700 and they break and deliver the freight he brings back ....Some employees enjoy the variety of running the road and a couple hrs of dock work plus the 4 day work week ....

Happy New Year. Are road board is being transfered, so road drivers are looking at taking the UE position. Article 3,Section 7 talks about road bidding with full seniority rights.

Double Barrell
Only thing I can say is all UE's in the east are drawn from City Boards ...I doubt ABF will allow it to be different in the west ....There is also a road change that was filed at the same time ..it is posted here but I have not read it and just guessing they are postioning drivers to cover the O/B loads made at the HVXP's ever Monday through Thursdays ..Road Drivers handle these O/B loads and also bring inbound loads to the HVXP's for the UE men to work and get to destination ....RPM has been a success in the east both by the management who designed it plus the efforts of the UE's to make it a success......
I know of three HVXP's where the UE's handles the whole operation .....It does increase our abilty to compete with the Fed-EX & ODFL & Conway & Regionals

They did have road drivers move over to the ue. I know of two, but I don't remember the circumstances that were behind it. One ran from the Florida panhandle to Birmingham Ala. The other is runing from West Virginia to Winston-Salem N.C. I will try to find out the info on this and let you know.

Road Drivers were given the chance to cross over and retain their seniority if no P&D Teamsters bid the new opening after a change. Upon transferring to the P&D board he or she lost their road seniority unless in the case of a bonafide COO allowed them to bid back to the road board. It pays one dollar an hour more than a normal P&D employee makes. It is a way for ABF to compete and make a profit against any and all trucking companies. It got Judy a
$75,000.00 a year raise. WE SAY JUDY YOU KEEP YOURS AND WE WILL KEEP OURS!

It looks like the company wasn't uniform when they started the UE position. It could be a western states supplemental article or a local by local agreement. I just hear they will agree to a veteran road driver bid the UE position over a new hire city.

In the east, everyone who was interested in participating in the coo first master bid (the one to fill all the UE postions) were put on a company master seniority list. We were all called in company seniority order no matter if you were city or road to bid. When the bid got to you it was then your choice whether to take a position somewhere else as a UE driver or to stay put. For example, at 051 where I am, there were about 30 of us on the bid sheet but only 7 took transfer positions. One went to Dallas,TX. One went to Champaign, IL. One went to somewhere in Wisconsin. One went to Charleston, WV. One went to Raleigh, NC and two went to Charlotte, NC. Of that 7 two of them came from the road and the rest from the city cartage. But when it was bid time we were all on the same master list with all other terminal employees from all other affected terminals that were losing people.

Does anyone have the decision from the ABF Premium Service Change of Operations? and can someone post it? thanks
